To think ringworm is an utter decker to get rid of

I have ringworm under my breasts. I have been fighting a losing battle with it for around 7 years.
Initially I didn’t realise what it was, just thought it was a general, er, well it was a rash.
I used an anti fungal medicated talc after showering, but occasionally noticed it a little redder if I was hot and sweaty. Being cursed with a magnificent bosom, under the breasts was quite frequently a moist warm area.
Two years ago I went to the GP and he prescribed an anti fungal cream. It made not a ha’porth of difference. I bought otc anti fungal cream. No change.
I then tried sudocreme. Yay! It made a massive difference and the rash reduced.
However, it has come back, actually I don’t think it ever went away completely. It seems to have spread to a larger area, is now on my breasts and my upper arms. The sudocreme isn’t doing anything to it.
So, my next brilliant idea is tea tree oil! I have applied it to the rash and........
It stings! Is it working?
What can I do? Burn my bras? Towels? Sheets? What?
Help me, Mumsnet.

See the gp and get treated for it properly I guess

IgnoranceIsStrength · 27/10/2018 13:42

Is it definitely ringworm? That is usually fairly isolated. A strong antifungal cream would clear it up. All clothes, bedding etc would need to be washed on the hottest settings as spores can be resistant to even high temperatures

Thanks, Ignorance. I think I need to ditch all my bras.
Mr Trebus, the GP’s treatment didn’t work.

Go back to GP to get a prescription for antifungal cream, or use over the counter terbinafine. Use as directed and wash your hands well after application. Keep the areas covered.

Wear bras and tops only once, segregate from other laundry and wash at 60 degrees with antifungal detergent (Halo Non Bio). Tumble dry if possible.

Keeps areas covered at night. Consider changing sheets daily, washing as above.

Keep this up for 2 weeks after symptoms have disappeared.

You may need an oral antifungal if this doesn't work.

After this episode, maintain the laundry hygiene and begin treatment at the first sign.

Are you sure it's ringworm?

Rash under boobs is most likely intertrigo. Treatment is Canesten HC - it has to be the HC version, not just ordinary Canesten.

Keep boobs dry and bra free as much as possible. Get a new bra fitting as bad bra is prob contributing. Wash dry and apply twice a day, yes it stings when you first put it on but it really really works.

However if you have proper rings of ringworm going and it is spreading out then you need back to GP and prescription of antifungal tablets, and if that doesn't work a dermatology referral.

Messing about with tea tree is going to get you nowhere.

Sea salt in the bath each night can help

Portobellae · 27/10/2018 14:01

Ok, thanks everyone.

Derbac lotion is the best. I think you can get it from chemists without prescription but maybe check with the doctor first.

itbemay · 27/10/2018 14:23

Terbinafine oral, make sure they do a LFT blood test before but that should sort it, may take some time. All the best.

LordBuckley · 27/10/2018 14:29

I would have thought it's time for a dermatology referral after all those years. Can you be sure it's ringworm?
