Think my kids room is haunted

When my eldest was a toddler she used to say a little boy came to play. I played along and joked if he was good he can play.
I was in the bath one night and she told me he was leaving now. I was like ok then!
Not heard much about the boy since but the previous owner had a friend who’s child stayed in that room and mentioned the boy.
My 2nd child sleeps in that room now and wakes every night around 3am.
Last night I fell asleep in their room with her and was suddenly awoken by the sound of the safety gate being swung open. Obviously shitting myself but the dog sometimes pushes it open so thought to myself ah don’t be silly but the dog was sound asleep in his basket. Kids fast on so I got in my own bed feeling a little guilty i deserted them in a haunted room. This was 2:40am.
As a child I always felt I had a 6th sense or maybe an over active imagination???
Anyone else had something like this?

There's a lot of people here who will be rude and tell you it's a lot of rubbish, but how do you feel about it? It doesn't sound like anything harmful from what you have said. Your daughter didn't seem bothered; is your other child upset by it? Or do they go back to sleep again?

Lots of people say that they coexist quite happily with a friendly ghost in the house. If it's not bothering the children or causing upset in the house, there's no need to worry. Animals can be sensitive to changes in atmosphere and are said to see ghosts but your dog seems quite content!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 26/10/2018 21:55

IMO,no. No such thing as haunted or haunting
But plenty folk susceptible to the woo woo dem things we don’t understand
No doubt others will regale you there spooky, woo stories
Some others will undoubtedly suggest a blessing, exorcism. burning Pringles, casting oot the ghosties

YourVagesty · 26/10/2018 21:58

I was going to say something along the lines of what TooManyPaws said.

I suppose that as long as the children are happy then it can't be a bad presence. That's got to be reassuring!

BlueEyedBengal · 26/10/2018 22:06

My children refuse to sleep in their room and even go upstairs on their own. My house was built in 1900 and has some weird going's on especially upstairs. My son said he was woken by a glowing women screaming in his face. And hubby ex army hard guy has seen a young boy with a basin haircut standing at the bedroom door scared the poop out of him at the time. A dog has run across the bed ( we don't have a dog) and some invisible weight has sat on the end of the bed I didn't look I was terrified. A red orb has been known to float down the stairs and across the hall, there are no cars driving past as we are not on the main road and there is a dead end. I have 6 children and all sense something not right and also the cat will sit on the landing staring at the bedroom door, if you open the door he refuses to enter. In the day when the children are at school you can eat footsteps walking across the bedroom above. I have asked the reverend to bless this house as don't know how to deal with this goings on,

My three year old wakes without fail every night, always about 4am. I bring him in my bed. A few nights ago it happened and I brought him in my bed as usual. After about ten minutes he sat up next to me, looked in the corner of the room and said 'yes, yes, we come with you? Now? No, no ok then' and laughed!! He then seemed to follow something leave my bedroom! Proper freaked me out as I'm not woo at all!

Jamct23 · 26/10/2018 22:18

letmepeeinpeace Your story just gave me a shiver I would of yanked him back by scruff of he’s neck Blush But then again I’m very Mars haha x

Jamct23 · 26/10/2018 22:18

Very mard*

Bluntness100 · 26/10/2018 22:19

Lots of people say that they coexist quite happily with a friendly ghost in the house

They really don't sigh.

Op, yes it's your imagination and it's that moment caught between sleep and waking snd the thought being in your head. Same with your kids dreaming/imagination.

There is no such thing as ghosts. It's just your mind playing tricks on you.

letmepeeinpeace · 26/10/2018 22:25

I just lay there and didn't dare move!! It really scared me!

gogglepod · 26/10/2018 22:26

I used to live in an old house and would never close my bedroom door but refused to sleep with the bathroom door open which was opposite. Years later I was speaking with the new iwners and they did some research and told me a bloke drowned in the bath. My great grandmother was meant to be psychic. It must be great if you could speak to dead people but I can’t help thinking I’d probably get a poltergeist instead of a nice friendly ghost with the lottery numbers lol

If you believe in all that and you come from a family who believes in all that, then it's no wonder your kids say things like this.

But no, of course it's not haunted.

Froglette16 · 26/10/2018 22:35

It happens. I lived in a haunted mews flat once. Couldn’t sleep without a light on for about 18 months after moving out. The house I’m in with my young family has a friendly feel to it but my DC1 spoke a lot about “the lady” in our dining room. Told a lot of specifics unusual for her age. DC2 started chattering to no one in particular when he just started saying a few words. One morning I heard a child’s voice speaking to him quite distinctly when I was in another room. My brother stayed with DC2 shortly thereafter in his room and heard similar distinct talk. No joke. This kid is in our house, makes no fuss, just wants to talk I think to our little one. It doesn’t scare me but unsettles me, if that makes sense?

gogglepod · 26/10/2018 22:39

My brother used to talk to an old man in his bedroom my mother told me. His room always smelled of cigars. No one smoked in the house.

Used to have a gent who locked the door last thing at night for us around 11ish.
If me or my hubby were expected to be out late I always told him before I left to expect us later than usual.
Door would lock behind us when we came in.
Always felt it was the " man of the house" doing his normal closing up before bed.
Felt very safe , caring & fatherly thing to do.

Would also see him come in the front door & turn in to the bathroom. Always felt he was a physical labour man who went to the bathroom to wash up after work.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 26/10/2018 23:07

You’ve been immersed in woo hoo ghostie stuff since you were a kid, reinforced by family. And now you’re passing it on as a belief to your own kids

busybarbara · 26/10/2018 23:15

People have tried to prove the existence of ghosts for centuries without success. Even investigators who go into "haunted" homes have never left with any ironclad scientifically recorded evidence. It's just mental delusions and hallucinations.

gogglepod · 26/10/2018 23:19

just wondering? Do the non believers get scared at horror movies?
We all still love a good scare don’t we?

recklessruby · 26/10/2018 23:33

I live in a Victorian house near an old cotton mill and laundry. We have a ghost that drifts up and down the stairs with a basket. She is very calming and peaceful. We call her Laura the laundry lady and we are often missing clothes until we say Laura please give my shirt/jumper/trousers back.
I used to live in a horrible haunted house with really evil spirits so I believe you. The whole place had a really sad negative feeling.
Sounds like your dc aren't bothered though, maybe you have a Laura of your own.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 26/10/2018 23:42

Scary movies, love em.not gory slasher/blood, more the suspense genre
I know it’s not real,it’s formulaic ,but nonetheless I like a scary movie
You’re primed to believe woo hoo stuff, you want to believe it.so you interpret unrelated facts and events as “proof”

malificent7 · 26/10/2018 23:43

I believe...I lived in a haunted house! Why is 'proof ' needed?

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 26/10/2018 23:47

It’s pretty much a universal way to test theories, beliefs. An event is interpreted as proof
The op et al are trying to prove by the narrative provided, inviting others to be affirmative
A feature of the woo hoo clan is “there are fings we don’t understand” as if that’s a complete explanation

gogglepod · 26/10/2018 23:57

I do believe I’ve seen a ghost, I wasn’t alone at the time and can’t explain it but I did see it and when we looked back it had vanished. They even made a tv program about it. We were on a long lonely road in the early hours. We turned the car round and drove back and there was no one there. We did shit ourselves but so glad we did.

OP posts:
Jlynhope · 26/10/2018 23:57

I believe as well.
Our home isn't haunted but I believe there is an imprint from the original owners on it from the 1920's. When we have lots of kids over running around and laughing I feel like the soul of the house loves it. They had 6 kids and we only have one.

gogglepod · 26/10/2018 23:57

Saw a ghost I mean not shit ourselves lol

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 27/10/2018 00:00

But you have the predisposition to believe. You have already said
My great grandmother was meant to be psychic
It must be great if you could speak to dead people

So you see, hear something unusual and you believe it to be woo hoo ghostie
