Facebook marketplace offers

I've got an item on Facebook marketplace for £200 (chair covers, sashes, tablecloths etc) and someone's just asked if I would take £100.

I get that most people will ask for the price to be a bit lower on there but would anyone really take half? I've said no and there isn't a problem but it just made me wonder what others think.

Some people are just chancers. I remember once being offered £50 for a pram I was selling for £250. She got all shirty with me when I said politely declined, because I had said "offers considered"!

CandyCreeper · 26/10/2018 19:24

i was selling a childs electric ride on car bought for £130 was only selling for £50 and people kept offering me £20 for it

I found this with Shpock. I know it’s a boot sale type app but even so, people expect you to practically give stuff away.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 26/10/2018 19:35

Wait for the swap offers. They’re always cracking.

Starlight345 · 26/10/2018 19:38

European12345 · 26/10/2018 19:46

I was selling some baby wipes. Rrp 7. My price 5. Someone asked whether I could sell her the box for 3 and also deliver. Hmm

tangoed2 · 26/10/2018 19:53

@IncyWincyGrownUp swap offers?! That's a new one for me!

People are ridiculous. I was selling an old car for £900 and I got countless messages asking if I'd take £100/£200.

One guy even came to look at it and tried to tell me that it was rusty, wouldn't pass an MOT, had mechanical problems etc and that unfortunately he could only offer me a couple of hundred. I told him nice try but I actually work in the motor trade and I wouldn't fall for his scam. He soon left Grin

If I know it's been on for quite a few weeks and it says no-one has emailed them, and it seems a much higher price than other similar items, then I'd maybe put in a cheeky offer

manicinsomniac · 26/10/2018 21:31

Well, 'don't ask, don't get', I suppose!

For all they know, you might have known you were massively chancing your arm to ask £200 and have had no interest so far so will be happy to get half.

CookPassBabtridge · 26/10/2018 21:35

Agree with above poster, what's the harm in asking? There's a chance you are desperate for some money, have massively overpriced it, need the space urgently etc. Don't ask don't get!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 27/10/2018 00:20

I was once selling my old phone as I’d recently upgraded (and at that point didn’t have a teen to take it off my hands). I had someone offer me £25 and a well-used pushchair for it. I politely declined on the basis that I couldn’t put the pushchair in my holiday spending pot. The abuse in return was lyrical!
