Swollen lymphnodes

NC as very outing.

Not aibu but I need the traffic.

Daughter is 3, she’s had a swollen lymphnode behind her ear for two years. She had bloods done in January, full count and film (film means nothing to me though) this came back clear and the consultant said the lymphnode should be gone within 6 months. It hadn’t so we went back to the docs who referred us to hospital. Had appointment today, they found more swollen lymphnodes in her neck, armpit and groin. She’s had a cold lately but no infections ect. She had a chest X-ray this morning and she had bloods next week, someone give me a positive story please, where the outcome wasn’t horrendous , I’m losing my mind with worry

Film is a blood smear looked under the microscope to check the cells themselves look healthy. It helps rule out anything sinister.

I myself had swollen lymph nodes for over 3 years. Even now they are very reactive and swell even when not feeling ill

Hutchismo · 26/10/2018 14:22

It's natural to panic, but as someone who had a form of lymphoma in his early 20s, you should be reassured that there are plenty of relatively innocent reasons to have swollen lymph nodes, and by the sounds of it, the doctors are on the ball in terms of what to look for.

The bloods coming back clear in Jan should also be a positive, given the length of time the node behind the ear has been noticeably enlarged.
If she is otherwise fit and well, no weight loss or other symptoms, stick with it, and if you don't understand something they are testing for, looking at, don't be afraid to ask the medical staff what's going on.

chicken75 · 26/10/2018 14:31

Only experience that I have of this is myself with a few swollen in the neck/jawline for 6 months or so. Just had biopsy done and showing as reactive nothing sinister.
Could you speak to the consultants secretary about your concerns?

Namechanged123456 · 26/10/2018 14:57

Thanks for the replies.

I could chicken75 but they won’t know anything until her blood tests come back, her bloods on the 1st. She’s fine in herself, healthy not losing weight ect ect just these lymphnodes

I know a little girl with swollen nodes. They treated her for an infection and they went down.

I know that fear........ I don’t think there’s anyway round it until you know for sure your baby is ok.

Thinking of you 💐

CatLadyToddlerMother · 26/10/2018 15:02

I had swollen lymphnodes in my neck and behind my ears for 3 years with no explanation. I was a teenager. They still come up occasionally with no explanation either.

The blood test and film being clear is a good sign.

TeddybearBaby · 26/10/2018 15:03

Any idea when the bloods will be back?

Devillanelle · 26/10/2018 15:08

My little nephew always had a pea behind his ear and his mum said he had them in his groin too although obviously I didn't feel them. Can't remember how long he had them for but it was definitely more like years than months.

Namechanged123456 · 26/10/2018 15:18

Teddy bear the tests aren’t being done until the 1st November then we’ll get the results on the 15th.

I’m obvisouly hopping that they’re nothing but I’m thinking the worst, just keep looking at her and crying. I know I shouldn’t panic until we get results but it’s hard not too. I also have anxiety (medicated) so my minds gone into over drive

From what you have described she seems well in herself.

Children often have swollen nodes and in most cases it is just because their immune system is immature and they're always fighting something.

I'd just wait and see what the tests reveal.

TeddybearBaby · 26/10/2018 18:04

Feels like a long time to wait when you’re terrified. Just take one day at a time and stop your brain in the beginning when it starts to panic you. Remind yourself ‘she’s healthy’ ‘she’s fine’ 😘

Namechanged123456 · 26/10/2018 23:26

agnurse That’s a good point

Thank you all

My son has 2 swollen supraclavicular lymph nodes, the worst place to have them.
He was seen by an oncologist after I pushed my gp, chest x ray, ultrasound, bloods. I was suicidal, very stressed, ocd was set off, I couldn't stop googling. After 6 weeks of stress it was fine, they said basically they had swollen up once for some reason or other and were now "shotty" nodes and would dissappear one day. They're still there now and he's fine. He was 1 year 3 months at the time. Massive hugs to you, message me any time.

Namechanged123456 · 26/10/2018 23:59

OhEctoplasmOnIt I feel the exact same. I’m a complete wreck. So glad your sons okay.

I’d feel exactly like you. It’s normal to be so worried, but it’s a great sign she is being her normal self. I hope you get some reassuring answers very quickly.

My daughter was found to have a large lymph node on her neck when we went to A&E earlier this year (for something completely unrelated).
Further examination revealed more enlarged nodes in her armpit and groin as well as more in her neck. She was given a course of antibiotics We returned a week later and there was no change so she had bloods, chest X-ray and MRI of her neck.
Bloods and chest X-ray were clear but MRI showed loads of nodes.
Bloods repeated and were clear.
Finally she had a biopsy of largest node as they were stumped and even though bloods ok had to rule out lymphoma. Luckily all good .
It's scarey I know but deep down I knew she'd be ok.

Cyclewidow46 · 27/10/2018 06:13

I knew she'd be ok as she was well in herself, loads of energy and no night sweats, weight loss etc.
It's a good sign that your DC is well. I'd be very hopeful x

IdaBWells · 27/10/2018 06:23

I think if your dd doesn't have any other symptoms such as fevers and anemia that is a good sign. Dd2 got huge lymphnodes at 8 months, plus other symptoms, after a biopsy she was diagnosed with LCH Langerhans Cell Hystiocytocis (sp?). She had chemo for over a year and got the all clear by some time around two. She is now 15, 5' 9" in rude health and a rower. She developed coeliac disease which is common after your body has a trauma. But gorgeous and full of life.
