Let’s try and keep this one on topic so it doesn’t get deleted like countless others. So no focussing on one individual instagrammer. Please keep it more broad!

OP posts:
Notnowok · 06/11/2018 13:09

She has just posted a non apology saying she was so tired and the rules are so confusing after a weekend of lies.
Shocking behaviour.
ASA rules clearly state a gift is an #AD. Not hard to understand so writing "It's not an ad" "we weren't paid" at the beginning when questioned to

"It was a gift."
Tesco took down their #AD of said blogger after lots of comments asking of it was an ad. Then put it up again but no comments allowed.
Cue plenty of sheep telling blogger we are all jealous and she doesn't have to justify herself.
Being tired or confused about breaking the law is another lie especially as they spent the weekend deleting and blocking anyone who asked.

theladylovescupcakes · 06/11/2018 13:32

I've just read the non-apology. What a steaming pile of shite!! Absolutely laughable. Transparent? Yeah, right. Deluded.

3asAbird · 06/11/2018 13:39

Surely a gifted holiday an expensive one at that

Flights
Accommodations
Disney themed clothes
Vip passes
Lots of what looked like lots of professional shots on insta

Is form of paymemt average family of 4 could not have afforded all that or had opportunities to meet the characters.

On insta stories this is not an ad.
Its for my daughter's birthday
We were gifted passes no mention who from.
No thanking or tagging the well known supermarket brand who have been so kind.

Timing is everything

1 free Thomas cook holiday
Move house
Then free holiday at Disney on top of all the other brands gifted and some declared as ads recently.

They never declared the free Neilson holiday earlier in the year that was discovered by a few on mumsnet as ASA had told them.

I feel every gift or even discount should be declared.

Other mummy vloggers are being honest and its giving them all bad name.
One even posted pocs of receipts to prove she paid.

The I never knew. Im so tired
I have 3 kids and we moved house is lame excuse

Lots people asked questions this weekend on insta their own and the brands they were deleted or blocked .
Lots go on stories which dissapear
Lots if look how easy it is to meet characters taking everyone for a fool.
The other vlogger tagged the brand and featured the uk vlogging family on their stories

SpaceCannotBeLeftBlank · 06/11/2018 13:39

Why can’t we name people here when it’s already up elsewhere online? It’s not like it’s a secret is it?

These people are brands now. They exist to make money by selling stuff. That’s the business they are voluntarily participating in. Why can’t we identify who is being unethical? Is it in case we hurt their feelings?? WTF.

3asAbird · 06/11/2018 13:52

The vlogger said its so important to be transparent

Any questions or negative comments about their mistake are now deleted .

They also retrospectivly gone into weekend photos and said gifted we so lucky.

I think ASA and Channel mum got few complaints.

So all is good now they either truly think or was calculated to deceive their lovely fan girls.

As they work so hard. They deserve it.

By the way shes looking for free rugs.

Bananacakes · 06/11/2018 16:27

Interesting week, MOD discussing children online, which is all well and good till you see her husband’s account. It’s like they are from different families. And mrsmeldrum. WTAF. A post saying how transparent she wants to be and then in the comments it’s clear, she’s blocked people and thinks it’s all unnecessary. It’s a job and she’s ignoring the guidelines and deceiving followers. I just about handled her post but her comments are entitled and annoying.

Bananacakes · 06/11/2018 16:28

You can name accounts regarding the topic of the thread but not have a continued ‘pile on’

3asAbird · 06/11/2018 19:00

Does anyone wonder what brands are thinking.

1 mummy vlogger said on weekend that some brands had approached her to do undeclared ad and shes refused.

Is that because engagement with posts clearly labelled ads get skimmed over.

Jo malone im talking to you.
Why does she continually gift a small select group of vloggers some wealthy in their own right.

1 has had hotel stay in la with loads of free products and a event meal with mkre free products on the same trip.

Followed by couple of London events more gifted and free candles given to her surprise birthday party yep last ome was weird and not declared as an ad.

How does this make us mumsnetters want to go out and spend our hard earned cash on her products.

Does she just gift those associated with gleam.

scotx · 06/11/2018 21:07

I haven't seen the Jo Malone stuff online but Jo Malone the brand isn't the same as Jo Malone the person, it's owned by Estee Lauder now. Just when you're talking about "she" and "her" when it's actually part of a huge corporation presumably with a massive adverting and marketing budget. Jo Malone (the person) now runs her own brand called Jo Loves.

EeebyMum · 06/11/2018 21:11

I’ve noticed that Selfish Mother has deleted hundreds of her instagram posts, it’s totally stripped back. All the posts telling ppl to boycott the high street and slagging off mumsnet have gone. Just in time for her Christmas campaign.

EeebyMum · 07/11/2018 21:15

Erm, just seen SV stories about another instamum whose getting shit for what she called her kids - so of course I went to see what her kids are called —— I’m saying nothing

BarMcBarsen · 07/11/2018 21:21

Who's SV?

Stop being coy, people.

If you're worried about libel/defamation please know you can get sued for that if the person you're talking about but not explicitly naming is identifiable to even one person from your description/initials!

If what you're saying is true you don't need to worry about anyone suing you!

Bananacakes · 07/11/2018 21:31

Lennon William Egg Butty
Bolan-Billy Super Duper
Hendrix-Cobain Santa Claus
Ziggy-Ramona Unicorn Prince

Those are the names in question. I used to follow her.

EeebyMum · 07/11/2018 21:48

I’m not being coy BarMcBarsen it’s just easier to type initials and most ppl who follow the threads know who everyone is on about. It’s Susie Verrill

covetingthepreciousthings · 07/11/2018 21:49

I mean the first names I could go with.. but egg butty?!

covetingthepreciousthings · 07/11/2018 22:02

How many #Ads to people think is too many? One instamum that I follow sometimes posts 3 in a 24 hour period, I'm always surprised people don't comment and call her out for it as the content it on her feed is just ads or gifts.

Bananacakes · 07/11/2018 23:03

Those middle names can’t be right. They just can’t be. I’m pretty sure the first names are though.
Too many ads would make me unfollow!

EeebyMum · 08/11/2018 08:10

It’s the luck of upper-middle class white privilege that you can call your kids names like that and people find it charming and eccentric.

EeebyMum · 08/11/2018 08:13

As an aside, Sali Hughes has started doing ads having said previously she’d never take money to recommend products.
That’s totally her perogative but it devalues her future reviews and recs for me.

Blanchedupetitpois · 08/11/2018 08:22

I’ve defended bloggers on these threads multiple times (and I still think a lot of what has previously been said is unfair and goes too far) but even I was shocked by the trip to Disneyland thing.

I’ve moved house multiple times and at no point has it ever caused me to forget the rules and regulations I am bound by in my job!

And more than that, it was so disingenuous. Regardless of whether or not she thought she was strictly within the letter of the law, she can’t have believed that she was truly being upfront and honest when she claimed they had funded the trip themselves save for having a free VIP tour. As she wrote that, even if she was genuinely mistaken about whether it was within the rules or not, she can’t have thought she was really being upfront and honest about it.

I’ve unfollowed her as a result of that. If she had owned it and apologised properly I’d have accepted it, but the disingenuous non-apology was the worst part.

I've always assumed SH is knowingly deceptive. My friends and I call her queen of the soft sell. All her clothes are tagged and she often only answers the where is your dress/jumper ( Emma Freud dontchaknow) from?
I also have issues with beauty bloggers recommending expensive potions with the usual swollen immovable forehead. If these products are so good that you recommend we spend ££££'s on why do you resort to botox?
( I am not saying everyone who has botox needs to admit it, no. But as a beauty blogger it's underhand not to.imo)
SH has always been honest though about all her beauty products being free but I suppose now free equals gift which does mean, #ad.

3asAbird · 08/11/2018 09:53

Am i right thinking a paid partnership is money has crossed hands and agreed to maybe 2 squares on insta, a story and a vlog.

So many affiliate links are put on vloggers insta stories then they just disappear.

Mrs m loves to say swipe up

But in addition to say paid partnerships lets use mrs m and next as an example.
She gets payment plus gifted free clothes and bedding on top of.

You tubes even more ambiguous the come shop with me at homesense i assume they all has permission and they all got gift cards as kate murnane said she was given £100.

Couple younger vloggers have said Primark gifts them with cards.
None of the mummy vloggers have come clean if their homebargain Poundland or primark hauls are funded by gifted cards.

Mrs m has never been upfront about all her gifted prams.

I reckon babyzen gift lots as so many insta mums have that buggy.

I watched ash reids new house video i suspected the curtains were an ad.
Was only a week later when asked on insta that she said all her curtains were gifted by a Scottish company.
Then when further asked she said traditional media so it all the time and why is it always mum's who get picked on for this not men like qe all suddenly being sexist despite being mums ourselves.
All we want is honesty

I want a like by line detailed account
This is gifted by x and its costs this too buy# we so lucky.

So many smalller value gifted items are hidden as tags in their insta squares or product placed within their vlogs that you may not realise.
Its only when you see all the channel mums have the same that you think thats weird.

Its so subtle sometimes.

Reading so many responses last few days off the back of disneyland debacle

I never realised it was a gift .
I got quite down and depressed as i cant give my family that lifestyle.
Or worse i run up debts buying things influencers had now its gifted they feel cheated and lied to.
It then makes people dis trust them all.

Hearing from 1 vlogger saying sometimes brands suggest you be sneaky.

Im am dissapointed with tesco not making it clear that disneyland trip was an ad all paid for by them.
Also all the free character clothes.
When the vlogger they choose said ahe hates character clothing and finds tesco expensive and lied on insta stories saying this is not an ad.

It was not a mistake or stupidity
It was deception and only due to people talking online not on her platform as any polite questions got deleted. Users blocked and fans called them jealous haters, that the family work so hard and deserve it.

On insta its all about echo chambers
Positivity
Jealous
Women not supporting women.

No one cares if its an ad or gift but please do decelare it everywhere and clearly.
Let people ask polite sensible questions without ott offence and drama.

EeebyMum · 08/11/2018 10:21

Has @snowfaroe post been deleted because they mentioned an alternative place to chat about this?

nipersvest · 12/11/2018 11:12

I wasn't sure if instagram was still allowed to be discussed anymore given pretty much every thread has been deleted, and have to admit, I've cut back a lot on who I follow on there and have stopped watching a lot of the instastories that get posted, the whole thing just became, and continues to, become so murky.

I did have to laugh at a certain instamums post about sharenting, oh the irony. Surely if someone is thinking of altering their standpoint on privacy within their instagram stream, their partner also has to share that stance? Confused
