Well, am I, am I?? Dd has been ill with some horrid fluey thing and I have been incarcerated for an entire week. Because dh is home today I can leave dd with him and go and see the outside world! I've had a modicum of fresh air by sitting out on our balcony (we're on the 8th floor) but I'm unfeasibly excited at the thought of being able to visit our rubbish shops here, hehehe!

My sister lives in a small town with crap shops and she would die if she didn't get to drive to the big shops every 2 weeks, even if it is just grocery shopping. Her dh tried to get her onto tesco deliveries but she refused!

I'm back!!! Well, I got back a while ago and have been out for a meal since so I mean back on MN. Once I got to the shop I remembered why I don't go shopping on Saturdays - other people, lol! The shop actually had brown sugar, orange juice, anti-bacterial handwash and Sensodyne toothpaste in stock this week so it was a red letter day in some respects.

On the downside, I had a coffee and cake afterwards but couldn't eat the cake becaUSE IT HAD A (oops!) beastie in it.

My driver also had a bit of an escapade. The cover of the spare wheel, which is on the rear of the vehicle (dare I say 4x4??), fell off somewhere and he went to find it. He eventually spotted it at a roadside stall but when he reclaimed it he was told the stallowner was at Muslim prayers. The owner turned up, having done his religious devotions and proceeded to extort money from my driver for the priviledge of taking his own property!!! Such is life in Nigeria.

Sounds very similar to what I experienced in Bangladesh. And dh always used to go mad in Pakistan when he was ripped off on taxi prices just after the driver had been to prayer. I guess they must ask for forgivness the next time they go!

suedonim · 16/06/2007 21:40

Lol at asking for forgiveness. Apparently, when my (Christian) driver took the stallholder to task for extorting money he said he is a good Muslim but is also a man of Lagos therefore has to abide by the rules of Lagos as well!
