I was in town this morning fairly early but still the. Idle of half term and the high street was dead. Whole shops pretty much empty apart from a few old ladies. Was I just up and about early or is this a real sign of the death of the high street. I also like going in on a Sunday because it's generally quieter so easier to shop but even then I'm always surprised just how quiet it is, aibu to think it's the death of the British high street?

People have a choice.
Everyone either pays a bit more to buy stuff on the high street and keep the vibe going, or they buy stuff slightly cheaper online and lose their high street.

Quite. It is standard practice for people to take a photo of a book/item they like in a shop and then order it online as it's cheaper. I can see for clothes - especially for young people - it's easier to order online and have a trendy cheap item from Boohoo.com than traipse around the shops. Even Primark now seems to be rather deserted.

The only places that seem to be doing well are hairdressers, nail salons and coffee shops. I suppose the three things you can't order off Amazon.

whoops, didn't mean to do a link to Boohoo!
