...to have a mini-party for myself even though I've just lost my job?

Quick breakdown: started new job six months ago (six-month probation period). F*cking hellish. Hated it, was making me physically ill as well as killing any confidence I had in my own abilities.

Went into work this morning, got asked in 'for a chat', effectively told my services were no longer required and to clear my desk and to clear my desk and go, as probation = no rights, essentially.

CONS: Have no job. Not especially looking forward to breaking the news to OH, who will be supportive, but I do feel as though I've let him down, which is weird, but there you go.

PROS: Relatively financially comfortable (enough savings to see me through a good few months, no mortgage, kids, debt etc) and confident enough of picking something up in my niche specialism pretty quickly. Never having to go into that hellhole and question my existence again.

I hadn't actually realised how much I hated it until I was driving home and actually felt physically lighter - as though an actual weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

So now I'm having a glass of wine, I realise it's barely luncthime, but hey, it's 5pm somewhere. Grin

@EnglishRose13 - it was the classic 'we don't think you're a good fit' - after ALMOST SIX MONTHS.

I've worked in management in the past and if a person isn't a good fit, it becomes apparent after about six-eight weeks, there or thereabouts.

Interestingly, we had a townhall earlier in the month in which the CEO casually mentioned that ~£1m had been cut from the projected growth targets as it was looking unlikely.

Call me paranoid, but dropping probationary staff members is a lot easier and cheaper than making redundancies among established employees.

However, none of this takes away from the fact that I should have been savvier and jumped before I was pushed.

Yeah, that's a cop-out of a reason!

There is nothing worse than staying in a job you hate so keep smiling!

Have you told you OH yet?

TokyoSushi · 24/10/2018 15:29

This happened to me too! Made redundant after 11 years, told at 4pm, out the door by 5!!

I have such a lovely job now and am so, so much happier!

Enjoy the rest of the week OP and then start again when you're ready!

Congratulations on losing your horrible job! I got redundancy from a vile place a few years ago, I was delighted. I remember going up in the lift on my last day, playing air guitar and singing "This could be the last time" (yes I was alone in the lift).

Yay!! Congratulations on getting out!!

I was stuck in a horrendous jobs years back where my performance was being questioned by a bully of a manager. Did everything my manager asked. Went way above my JD and nothing was ever enough. It was hell and I landed up being signed off and resigning. Wish I'd just quit!!

You are well shot of the place. Enjoy your wine and Chinese!!
