AIBU to be scared to go to London!

LifesABeachCoaster · 24/10/2018 10:37

I have only been to London once and that was with a city savvy friend who had planned everything.

I have just purchased Fleetwood Mac tickets for Wembley for my DP and now I have no clue what to do.

I will be staying in a hotel in NW2. So I need to get a train to Paddington Stop H? What is this Stop H? How many stops are in Paddington, is it not just one station?

I am worried because I have bad anxiety about things like this. Does anyone care to plan my trip!?

Look at premier Inn. It's coming up at £132 for the two nights at their hotel at Wembley. £86 if you pay in advance. Just need to add breakfast.

LifesABeachCoaster · 24/10/2018 11:30

@waxonfeckoff is that on Booking.com???

Awaytome · 24/10/2018 11:30

See! We're all really helpful here OP!

abacucat · 24/10/2018 11:30

Don't get an uber to concert and public transport back as suggested. This would make sense if you are confident. But you need to figure out route from hotel to wembley on public transport when it is light and you have plenty of time. Then it will be easier on way back on public transport. Trust me I have been in your position.
And doing this will reduce your anxiety.

LifesABeachCoaster · 24/10/2018 11:31

Premier Inn is coming up as £236 for 2 nights with me

And I presume most posting here are living in London, so we're just normal. We just look rushed and busy and have headphones in as previously posted, but perfectly normal friendly people.

tissuesosoft · 24/10/2018 11:33

Train from Paddington to Marylebone. Chiltern line from Marylebone to Wembley stadium

Ohyesiam · 24/10/2018 11:33

Get an Uber, no sweat. Enjoy it .

Eliza9917 · 24/10/2018 11:33

Familiarise yourself with how to get from Paddington to the hotel as well OP. Not just hotel to Wembley.

Cricklewood station is on Thameslink and a bastard of a line when I worked there. If you get that you have to come out of Kings cross and walk round to the Thameslink station which is overground so check the timetable.

Looking at the tube map, it looks a right faff to get to Cricklewood if you don't know where you are going, I'd be tempted just to get an uber from Paddington to the hotel too.

Awaytome · 24/10/2018 11:34

tissuesosoft I think she's going from Paddington to the hotel first. Then from Hotel to the stadium? OP can you clarify? We can plan your journey from hotel to stadium and back too if you like. Taxi's would be a no no.

ealingwestmum · 24/10/2018 11:35

And just be mindful that whilst Uber is giving you a good price now, it operates on dynamic pricing (so will be higher if demand to a destination is strong)!

The public transport is really good to Wembley so go with posters' advice, and enjoy!

ComfortablyGlum · 24/10/2018 11:35

My tip would be follow the crowds back to Wembley Park tube - get a tube one or two stops then call an Uber. Getting one outside Wembley after a gig is horrendous- both finding your car and the surge pricing.

So much easier to get one further out. Or have something to eat after the concert and order your Uber when the crowds have gone. There’s a TGI Fridays, Nando’s etc at the designer outlets and a Maccy’s about a 2 min walk from the Arena or Stadium.

Jux · 24/10/2018 11:36

Oh do have a brilliant time! I am so jealous! I lived in central London for nearly 20 years (a couple minutes from Waterloo, very unsavoury back then) and I miss the city so so much. I also love Fleetwood Mac as does dd, so we could take your tickets.... GrinWink

London has changed so much so fast since I left it behind me, and I would have a hard time navigating it nowadays.

Glad you have so many helpful people here, and isn't modern life fantastic that you can look at where you're going onscreen before you go near a place? We are living in The Future!

Really have a good time.

LifesABeachCoaster · 24/10/2018 11:36

I just booked the Premier Inn wembley which is 5 minutes away from stadium! I looked earlier on booking.com and the rates were way higher with them and pre pay required yet their own website there is no pre pay required.

I feel bad for you all planning my journey from Clayton crowne now!

On the other hand I am extremely happy and relieved!

Well done Op that sounds like a much more relaxing option

Ignore people who are being mean. I think it’s useful to remember that different things scare different people.
I’m sure op does loads in her life that would scare me, and similarly London feels scary for her but fine for me

Have a great time

Awaytome · 24/10/2018 11:41

Well done to everyone helping out on the hotel bit!

chartreuse · 24/10/2018 11:42

Glad you have had so many helpful replies OP. You are doing the right thing by planning ahead and asking for help.

I'm shocked by the number of nasty replies here. Surely those of you saying 'grow up' could just ignore the thread? In what way is that helpful to someone who declared at the outset that she suffers from anxiety?

Assuming that you are all adults, please go and educate yourselves about the nature of anxiety, how widespread it is (very), and what we can all do to help those around us who suffer from this mental health issue.

Aren't you so lucky that you can sail through life without worrying about the minutiae? Count your blessings and be kind. I say this as the mother of a child who suffers from severe anxiety, I live through it with my dc and I see the toll it takes on their life.

If only it was as simple as 'pulling yourself together' Hmm

Awaytome · 24/10/2018 11:43

Hope you have a lovely relaxed time. And if in doubt at any time, just post here about anything, and we'll help you out.

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/10/2018 11:44

Great news op. Think I must have put in wrong dates but glad you got a deal anyway. Premier Inn are fab. They also do the HUB hotels which are great but wasn't sure how close they were.

NotCitrus · 24/10/2018 11:45

If you're coming into Paddington, then you could take the Bakerloo line (brown) to Baker Street and change to the Jubilee (grey) to Kilburn, and walk up to Cricklewood Broadway from there - it's about 10-15 min or get any bus in that direction. Then to get to Wembley go back to Kilburn and take the tube north.

Cricklewood Station is a couple 100 yards from the Broadway but Thames link trains only go half hourly, so you could go from there one stop south to West Hampstead and then the Jubilee line to Wembley.

Most people now do what Citymapper tells them, with a contactless debit card. It'll be fine.

Awaytome · 24/10/2018 11:46

Can I ask if you are a same sex couple or are you the man posting? Just if you're a same sex couple, you might feel more comfortable in London holding hands and such than you might in Wales. Sorry if I totally picked this up arseways.

GabsAlot · 24/10/2018 11:49

glad youve changed hotel i woldnt have recommedned an uber they cant get anywhere near the stadium after a concert you stil wold have to walk a way to get one

enjoy the show and if you are going to eat in the area beforehand be prepared its very busy and long waits for tables

LifesABeachCoaster · 24/10/2018 11:50

@Awaytome You are correct, we are a same sex couple but never display PDA anywhere anyway ha. I would love to go into Camden on our trip and someone suggested Portabello Road for the markets?

I am so glad someone mentioned the price of Premier Inn. I am confident I can get to London with my journey planner now.

And I definitely want to go sightseeing! Oh I feel so much better knowing we can just walk back to hotel. It was £284 for 2 nights with unlimited breakfasts both days!

OP posts:
LifesABeachCoaster · 24/10/2018 11:52

All I need to do now is try to keep it all quiet until Christmas day.

I was thinking of putting the hotel confirmation in a Stevie Nicks biography - all wrapped up. And say we are going for a London trip.

And "oh we might as well go and see Fleetwood Mac whilst we are there". She absolutely adores Stevie Nicks and has been dying to see FM for years. She will be ecstatic!

MorrisZapp · 24/10/2018 11:54

I went to a concert at Wembley and found it less easy to get to than anywhere else I've visited in London. I'm happy leaping on and off tubes etc but it wasn't very clearly signposted, and on the return journey we ended up on a random overground train.

It's a good walk from the station.
