I'm looking for a warm neutral (grey?) for a small North facing bedroom. Has anyone used Dulux Love Letter? Thanks

Or no traffic at all 😂. Quiet night.

We used valspar moonstruck, it has more earthy undertones, we've got grey in another room too but with bluer undertones, so it would look cooler except the room it's in is very sunny

Andthentherewere5 · 23/10/2018 00:49

I used Dulux Chic Shadow in my hallway. Looks lovely!

CandyCreeper · 23/10/2018 00:51

dont know about love letter but everyone seems to rave about chic shadow

Nonameslob · 23/10/2018 02:47

Chic Shadow in my kitchen but I'd say that's a slightly cooler grey. F&B Cornforth White is a taupe grey so quite warm. Have it in my bedroom and living room and love it.

Cakes321 · 23/10/2018 03:27

Valspar New York City Winter. The perfect French grey tone, warm but with no blue or lilac undertones. I have used it in 2 bedrooms, living room and bathroom, and it seems to go with several different colour schemes

KipperTheFrog · 23/10/2018 03:30

Weve got chic shadow going in our bedroom.
If you're not set on grey, we've got natural Hessian in hall stairs and landing. It's more brown, but a warm neutral.

renovatenotstagnate · 23/10/2018 22:08

Thanks everyone. I agree about Cornforth. It's so lovely. Don't want to over use it though. Also it's pretty £££ for a child's room. I bought the Dulux Polished Pebble thinking it looked just like Cornforth. How wrong. A (time and money) costly mistake. It was cold and lilacky. I'll check out the above suggestions. Is Chic Shadow cool or warm (sounds cool)

Chic shadow is a cool, bluey grey. Dusted Moss 2 is closer to Cornforth. Pebble shore and Quartz Grey also similar (all dulux).

Cakes321 · 23/10/2018 22:57

Chic Shadow is cool and more lilac in my opinion. I used F&B Elephant's Breath and hated it once up. It had a purple tone too. After spending a fortune on testers, I'm really pleased with New York City Winter...it's a warm putty grey and the Valspar paint is a treat to go on and covers really well. I used the premier blend and any marks have wiped off easily so far. I've attached a pic but might not be the best lighting

I've heard that valspar paint can cause a horrible smell in the room, has anyone experienced that it have they changed their formula?

motortroll · 23/10/2018 23:22

I have dulux perfectly taupe in my lounge alongside a dark grey. It's a sort of beige grey and definitely a warm colour.

renovatenotstagnate · 23/10/2018 23:23

Cakes and Bull- both V helpful. Thanks all for taking the time to reply.

7Days, I read that too and looked into it. I read that valspar investigated the reports of smells and made changes to the formula. It has very little fumes during painting in my opinion and I certainly haven't had any issues with smells afterwards.

7Days · 23/10/2018 23:41

Good to know cakes. I must say it put me off a bit but I might start looking into them again.

carpettile · 23/10/2018 23:46

U can get f@b mixed at trade places like Johnston’s that’s what I’d did! I used it all over and then elephants breath that’s way more beiige

MrsStrowman · 24/10/2018 00:31

We've used premixed and custom mixed valspar all over our house, it covers well and we've had no smell issues.

MrBull · 24/10/2018 09:47

Our painter did say the quality of valspar isn't as good as dulux (which is why we've stuck to dulux to stop him moaning!). He had a couple of bad experiences with it where they had to redo jobs completely (he said it's bad for showing your paint strokes/cutting in areas compared to dulux). He doesn't rate farrow and ball either though. I'm sure he's a dulux rep in disguise 😆. Maybe the new valspar formula is better, lots of people seem to like it.

TheSmallishMan · 24/10/2018 10:18

My husband's friend is a decorator and the only brand he recommended is Dulux. He said all the others are shit Shock

Cakes321 · 24/10/2018 10:35

MrBull - my painter said exactly the same!! But I ignored him as I had painted with Valspar myself before and liked it so much, and he seemed impressed with the finish once he completed the work. I found that the testers can show the quality of the paint. The dulux and crown testers I bought required 2 coats and was quite washed out looking (could be the stupid applicators that the come with), whereas Valspar tester pot went on with great coverage and only 1 coat to see colour. I'm trying out the external wood paint in a couple of weeks for my front door and windows. Fingers crossed I like that too
