Marmite. Dont forget the marmite

Now I know you’re just trolling with that comment. 🤢

MoteOfDustInASunbeam · 22/10/2018 21:13

Dunno Groot. It might. It might not. In the meantime, no harm in taking advantage of 3 for 2s in the meantime. As I said, I stock up every winter anyway in case we get snowed in.

I’d rather be wrong and have extra food in the cupboard for no need than wrong and scrabbling round empty shelves in the shops in a panic.

What I really think is very likely is that some foods will get a lot more expensive/scarcer at some point, especially if it can’t be grown here as easily. So peppers for example, or olive oil.

Heismyopendoor · 22/10/2018 21:13

If you want to groot you can find space in other places of your home.

My stockpile is in a cupboard where I keep towels and bedding and my washing baskets. I have heard of people putting things in their garages, under beds, on boxes on top of wardrobes etc.

Hedgehogblues · 22/10/2018 21:15

I'm stockpiling, not because I think everything is going to go to shit but because I think there might be some breaks in the supply lines for a bit. I've a baby due at the end of march and neither me or my partner want to be running around all the different supermarkets looking for the basics at that point

Pebblespony · 22/10/2018 21:17

One of the large dairy companies here in Ireland had ramped up production of cheddar and is stockpiling it in Britain for Brexit. Maybe other companies will do this.

MoteOfDustInASunbeam · 22/10/2018 21:18

There’s a big berry farm near here Groot. He dropped his price on the “pick your own” stuff a lot this year as he was struggling to get pickers to pick for punnets to local shops, he only had enough to fulfill his supermarket contracts.

Fightthebear · 22/10/2018 21:18

You’re not going to need to stock pile unless it’s a hard Brexit. Hopefully it won’t come to that Wine

MoteOfDustInASunbeam · 22/10/2018 21:19

That’s why I knew about that article.

MoteOfDustInASunbeam · 22/10/2018 21:22

That’s the other thing I’m stockpiling a bit Fightthebear, wine. Reckon it might go up in price a fair way.

Fightthebear · 22/10/2018 21:24
Grin
MoteOfDustInASunbeam · 22/10/2018 21:24

Stashing it on the top shelf of the big built-in cupboard in the hall. It’s too high up to use for anything you need day to day.

IAmGrootGrootGroot · 22/10/2018 21:44

@PositivelyPERF yes I knew of the winter feed being used.
I dunno, maybe I'm stupidly naive but I won't be panic buying.

I'm not a brexiteer btw. I believe the whole of the Uk was fed a pack of lies.

TheSerenDipitY · 22/10/2018 21:48

stockpile the spam and use it to trade in blackmarket veges

BiddyPop · 22/10/2018 21:49

I thought a lot of pasta had eggs in it - certainly any recipe I’ve ever seen for homemade pasta involves eggs.

I could be wrong though - I eat pretty much everything and only needed to worry when we had a veggie (but not vegan) at pair.

(We do eat veggie relatively frequently and lots of veg in general, but lots of cheese and eggs on our table, and a fair amount of meat as well).

user139328237 · 22/10/2018 21:57

They'll be no shortage of fruit pickers as the massive economic collapse and further tory benefits cuts will leave British workers with no alternative but to take those jobs...

PositivelyPERF · 22/10/2018 22:10

On the plus side, I’ve finally cleared out all those pots, pans, dishes and crap that has been gathering dust at the back of my cupboards and now have a lovely tidy kitchen, with enough room for my expanding stock. I’ve six bottles of gas for the three barbecues in case of interruptions in electric supply (NI gets some electric from across the boarder and where I live is often affected by storms).

I must admit, I rather enjoy knowing I can just open a cupboard and there’s a good supply of food. It means I can also help out others that might be in diffs or give stuff to the food bank if everything goes smoothly.

tabbycat1234 · 22/10/2018 22:11

Chickpeas! Bland houmous as no lemons or paprika!

PositivelyPERF · 22/10/2018 22:11

Adds lemon juice and paprika to list.

whatsthestory123 · 23/10/2018 00:50

Dont tell anyone you have a stockpile, they will burgal you if food runs low GrinShock

PositivelyPERF · 23/10/2018 01:00

I shall be like the food fairy and drop off the occasional bag of food, under darkness. I would make a super hero cape out of a curtain, but we will probably have to use the curtains as blankets, if the heating/electric goes out. 😉

foxyliz26 · 23/10/2018 01:10
