To expect Startrite shoes to last longer than 6 months?

Background: Child 1, boy, nearly 14, on slender side, 1.54cm.

Size 6.5, H(obbit) width feet, £42 school shoes

Shoes found after many tribulations. Shoes fitted. yeah!

Feet have not grown out of shoes. Boy does not play football or anysuch in them, just walks and occasionally runs (although not that much given how many books he has to carry).

Shoes fell apart at the front after 6.5 months. Shop refused to replace as they were more than 6 months old.

blimey, defo not unreasonable. have you tried going back to manufacturer rather than shop?

LIZS · 15/06/2007 21:01

Legal contract is with the shop not Startrite. They may well consider 6 mtonsh reasonable although ds' have lasted since September.

I was kind of hoping they'd last the year, unless immense growth spurt. The really annoying thing is that I actually bought them before we went on holiday last August, to avoid the rush. This means that by the time they fell apart in March, he'd actually only worn them for five months if you factor in holidays...

We thrashed it out with the shop, but no go. We had them mended a shoe makers in town, but that repair only lasted another two months. We had to buy some really cheap ones to last till the end of the school year, just in case he grows a lot over the summer (he's at that sort of age...)

Is it a large shop? I used to work for a large shoe shop and they always took shoes back, would have thought after 6 months they would have refunded or exchanged at the very least. If its large shop write directly to the manager.

It was Russell & Bromley, which sadly is pretty much the only place to buy Startrites in Exeter.

Well they are big, I would definitely write directly to the manager of the overall chain, NOT the branch manager. You'll get more joy going right to the top!

I have just been on to google and got on their website, seems their main contact is

The Manager
Russell & Bromley
24-34 Farwig Lane
Bromley
Kent
BR1 3RB

Hope that helps! Jane
