Would you sign your child up for a trip to Italy in Spring 2019?

Given the very likely impact of no deal Brexit on aviation.

Dd2, aged nearly 15 wants to go on school trip to Italy. It's due to take place around Brexit time in 2019 and costs £500.

What do you all think?

Yes of course.

StephenFrysMassiveBrain · 21/10/2018 23:28

Ask the school is they have risk assessment on the trip... ALL aspects of it. They may have filed it under 'business continuity' as opposed to H&S. Anyway, make sure it's read and understood by you and other worried parents. If you're OK with it and it reassures you, fine. Make sure it includes all these concerns.

I'd be jittery though, so can't blame you!

Electrascoffee · 21/10/2018 23:28

You think it will be ok? I'm honestly having sleepless nights about the possible impact Brexit will have.

Have you asked the school if there is a guarantee that you will be fully reimbursed if they have to cancel the trip?

LEMtheoriginal · 21/10/2018 23:50

Forgive my ignorance but why might brexit affect trips abroad? Genuine question

Bombaybunty · 22/10/2018 00:01

I have. He's going to Italy on 6th April.
Brexit didn't cross my mind.

HurricaneFliss · 22/10/2018 00:12

Lem - take a look at this thread

Katedotness1963 · 22/10/2018 02:28

Yes, I would.

Angrybird345 · 22/10/2018 06:46

Yes, and £500 is cheap!

DaffydownClock · 22/10/2018 07:00

I hardly think the world's going to grind to a halt next Spring 😳
The hysteria is getting ridiculous, it reminds me of the Millennium panic 😡

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 22/10/2018 07:04

Yes. Everyone is being hysterical over the ifs and buts of brexit.

motortroll · 22/10/2018 07:19

We are taking 60 15 tear olds to Italy before brexit and returning after. We book through an education company every time. We have discussed in detail with them. The answer is we have no idea what will happen but I can't think anyone's going to stop us going home! It would be helpful if the carrier companies gave us some indication what their plans are about check in, and some other input about security, passport control etc. The fact is we don't know but have been reassured that it won't be a problem.

Electrascoffee · 22/10/2018 07:20

But the millennium panic only didn't happen because people spent years working on a solution...

dd is signed up to go to France and Belgium in June by ferry. I'm a bit worried she might not get back in since she doesn't have a UK passport. I'll have to have a word with the school about it and her aunt and uncles ready to rescue her at the ferry port in case she gets stuck.

donajimena · 22/10/2018 07:39

I've booked my summer holiday. I would.

Melassa · 22/10/2018 07:52

I would be wary. My DSis had a similar doubt as her DS was going to France in April. School told her it was going to be OK because they were going by coach and not plane. Then the govt issued their no deal notices and yes coach travel is affected. She asked at a parents meeting about the trip and no one had thought about it. The school checked the travel company’s T&Cs and they were fibbed off about eventual refunds for Brexit related cancellations. Ask the specific question. It is not scaremongering. The govt report is here

And to the fool who mentioned the millennium bug a lot of work (and money) went into averting a disaster. With Brexit the govt appears to be willingly hurtling towards a disaster to appease a handful of rich and religious bigots. Huge difference.

Slippersandacuppa · 22/10/2018 07:55

Yes, my son is going in July.

JagerPlease · 22/10/2018 10:07

I would. Just make sure his passport has more than 6 months validity by the date of travel
