To tell my friend he's a hypocrite ?

My friend texted me today to say what a lovely date he had with a Polish woman. He is looking for a genuine relationship.

I said 'well if I were you I wouldn't mention that you voted us out of the EU and try to change your views about the whole thing if you could see this being a genuine relationship'

He replied saying he doesn't discuss his leave vote with 'Europeans'. I think he's a hypocrite.

What makes you think she’d be a remainer?

She doesn't have UK citizenship - and hasn't been here long.

I think people don't think through the consequences of their narrow mindedness

Well..,we have had a lot of arguments about him voting leave in the past.

I have a EU friend who is genuinely very depressed about the leave vote and daily stuff about Brexit and the U.K. going down the pan as a result. It is affecting her mental health.

Yes Brexit is a massive thing. We are all going to suffer for it whether EU citizens or not. I genuinely have sleepless nights about it.

Btw I didn't actually say to his face that he's a hypocrite. But I did advise him to pretend he's a remainer if he wants this to work out.

Nah, I agree with you. Maybe hypocrite isn't quite the right word, a lot of people seem to have voted leave thinking we'd stay in the single market etc. It definitely is a bit daft, but what I find most irritating is that he won't discuss his vote with Europeans, what gives. Besides, he's European himself, most likely.

Any potential political differences they might have, is non of your business/not your concern. There's a chance she could be more annoyed at his friend telling him to lie, over assumptions she's made, than how he voted back then or his reasons..?

I’m an European person and I’m depressed as well because everywhere I look it’s brexit brexit brexit. Nobody knows what’s going to happen and seems like everyone knows the best / worse is about to come. I can’t wait for all these news to be over.

Europeans didn't have the vote! Wrongly so imo. I'm not saying gap year students should have had the vote but I know people who have been here 20plus years, paying tax, working, married, have a house and British family and kids...clearly planning to say, but didn't get a vote.

Am I the only one reading these comments and being flabbergasted by all the "Europeans didn't have the right to vote" comments? Every one of us who voted is a European!

@heymammy - my point exactly. Idiots voted to leave and now they complain they can’t go to mainland Europe without a visa. We are all European.

Your friend doesn’t appreciate the fact that it’s due to European freedom of movement that he’s been able to meet this lovely lady. As well as the fact that his vote has made her life more difficult and she’ll have to jump through hoops to be able to stay here after Brexshit.
