I loathe doing it and am crap at it. Need to do a massive one for child’s uber competitive school - they’ll never win due to how much effort other parents put in but any pointers welcome pleaseeee! I don’t want him to be embarrassed! And yes, it is a weird one where it’s def the parents who do it - who’d trust a five year old with a knife?!

@woodwaj that is such a perfect pumpkin you've grown, I'm not sure you can actually carve it!

CantWaitToRetire · 22/10/2018 17:23

Use props and other fruits and veg and do something a bit out of the ordinary. Here's a few of my favourites.

5foot5 · 22/10/2018 17:28

Try turning it on its side so you can have the stalk as a nose.

woodwaj · 22/10/2018 17:44

@ArabellaUmbrella I'm a bit biased but he's beautiful Grin

GUYZ. Thank you. Two glasses of wine and one hour and done. This is a GREAT improvement. Sharp metal ice cream scoop for the win!

I love pumpkin carving. We are planning to carve out our pumpkins on Thursday or Friday afternoon. Do a practice run first to see which designs you prefer. Or you can always paint your pumpkin instead which is cleaner, neater and easier for children.

Don't cut towards your other hand. Still got the scar from last year.

Izzabellasasperella The thing that I think makes them last the longest is the cold. I was so surprised at how fast the pumpkins went bad in England!

I'm from Utah and you carve the pumpkin in October and it would stay fresh outside until Spring Christmas practically

You should try Australia then!

We leave them out overnight and one (particularly warm) year when we went to dispose of it in the morning it was a semi-liquified mass of goo.

We carve the day before Halloween and keep it in a cool cupboard, put out on Halloween afternoon. Without fail, even if not starting to liquify they are full of mould the next morning. The humidity/heat is not the Halloween pumpkins friend!

It's all American nonsense!
