Where in Spain would you visit if a lone couple?

What parts of Spain would you visit next summer if you had the choice?

With no kids.

Best value/deal if possible for two weeks if you have any recommendations?

Want a place which is busy enough but not too touristy/tacky. Plenty of places to eat/ visit during the day like excursions etc.

San Sebastian; just wander round and eat. Bloody glorious.

Patienceisvirtuous · 21/10/2018 22:05

Palma

SimplyPut · 21/10/2018 22:06

Seville, Palma, Malaga or Valencia!

KingBee · 21/10/2018 22:06

Madrid. Up early - do a bit of touristy stuff - long boozy lunch back to hotel for a shag and a siesta. Out again in the evening more food, people watching etc long into the night.

Echo San Sebastian, Bilbao, and up to Bayonne. For a great holiday with two separate countries but combined (Basque) cultures. It cannot be beaten, and the Pinxtos (Basque for Tapas) in San Seb are just amazing, along with wandering through the streets and stopping for just another bite to eat too!

The weather can be mixed, but in high Summer I doubt you will have a problem. We were there in May and it was glorious.

Costa Brava is the most romantic and most beautiful part of Spain. Begur - stay in one of the many amazing boutique hotels. Or Tossa de Mar. Barcelona is easy to get to for a day trip.

Petitepamplemousse · 21/10/2018 22:14

I’d go to Granada, Seville or Barcelona.

CountFosco · 21/10/2018 22:16

Haven't been to Spain with the kids yet!

The most romantic place I've been to in Spain is the Alhambra, unfortunately I went on a work trip and would love to go back with just DH. We did go to Girona for a short trip (part of a trip to Barcelona) which was lovely as well. But I also loved Madrid, we went in the winter and had the Prado to ourselves. I'm not fussed about beach trips though but Barcelona is the obvious place to go to combine beach and culture.

Jaimx86 · 21/10/2018 22:38

Does it need to be mainland? If not, Formentera! It’s great for couples.

Bimgy85 · 21/10/2018 23:46

Great recommendations thank you!

Definitely considering going more north for a change, I've been many times before but down south/ south east to more touristy areas

And for the record could anyone recommend places in Italy, I've never been and dying to go.. but wouldn't have a clue where to even look apart from the obvious places romance and cute streets with candle lit dinners sound great..

Asturias. Lots of beautiful beaches, mountains and villages. I’ve been going there several times a year for 10 years.

AyeRobot · 21/10/2018 23:51

Galicia, especially the Rias. Consider flying to Porto as flights cheaper.

moreginrequired · 21/10/2018 23:57

I'd maybe use Madrid as a base and head to Toledo Segovia and Salamanca, ideally late September to autumn so the light was even more beautiful

Wotchamacallit · 22/10/2018 00:02

Another vote for Valencia.

My best Spanish holiday (if you can cope without a beach) was extremadura area. Flew into Madrid then did a loop round by Zafra, caceres , plasencia and monfrague national park then back to Madrid. Stayed in fantastic accommodation booked through something with paradores in the name.

I second the above. It's beautiful. We did 2 weeks travelling about and stayed at a different parador every few days.. they can be booked in advance and are mostly stunning historical, buildings converted into hotels.

Asturias is really nice — lots of interesting places. Oviedo is nice, and the cider is amazing!
