Please help wise mothers/fathers/HCPs or anyone with any experience??
I’m absolutely at my wits end.
PFB DS 10.5mths old. No teeth yet but exhibiting very classic teething signs and has bumps on gums.

He’s been so run down and poorly for about 6-7wks now (on and off not constant). He’s had tonsillitis twice, bad cold, virus, sickness bug.

This week he’s had 3 episodes of vomiting and almost daily diarrhoea (with all other bowel motions being absolutely normal but with 1-2 liquid every day or other day). He was the best eater ever and now won’t touch anything apart from toast, yogurt, fruit pouches or puffs/wafers), his sleep is very disturbed too.
Been to GP and Urgent Care who declare him fit and well.

What’s going on? Can any of this be teething related?

Certainly sounds a bit like teething

Has he had any medicine? Calpol and neurofen

Anbesol liquid is amazing! It’s behind the pharmacy counter so you need to ask for it but you pop a bit on your finger and rub it into the gums. It will numb the gum

Mine had every bloody tooth by 13m old OP. Including all molars. Though they happened that quick I think he got used to the constant pain.

It sounds like teething to me. Vomit can be from his sinuses being affected and him swallowing all the extra 'fluid' when they drain and the same for the other end. Especially if off his food. See if he'll eat frozen berries or fruit in one of those mesh ring feeders, it will help his gums loads.

Give him some Calprofen and see if he'll drink & eat more food an hour later.

Thank you for the advice - I really appreciate it.
Yeah, he gets Nurofen and Anbesol. It’s just Google would suggest that vomiting or diarrhoea can NEVER be linked to teething but it’s so sporadic it can’t be a bug and there’s literally nothing else wrong with him right now.
He’ll eat plenty still but only of the few foods he’s deemed worthy. (Yet 1.5wks ago he was on holiday eating absolutely anything and everything!)

Diarrhoea is one of the biggest signs of teething!

AlphaBravo · 21/10/2018 19:51

Its normal for them to switch food tastes anyway around that age. My kid ate everything then for the past 4 months has lived of hidden veg in pasta sauce, fish fingers, apples and bananas 😂

DD has awful poo when teething, it's a classic sign, something to do with all the extra saliva upsetting the gut. She also really goes off her food. She started symptoms at 4 months, first tooth at 6mo but still only has 5 at 15 months. Poor thing seems always to be starting a new cycle so I feel for you. Anbesol, neurofen and make sure he always has access to something to chomp on x

Thank you...this is really helpful. I’ve cried for days, it’s so much better to hear real life experiences rather than just reading the NHS/Babycentre stuff (which of course is very important and we have sought medical advice already, but equally real life experiences count too).

All sounds like teething. Dd went from being a great sleeper, great eater, happy little thing to utterly miserable. And she made sure me and DH were too! I remember having to stop twice on a 20 minute journey home to console her and calm her down because she was crying so badly I thought she would throw up.

Make sure he's loaded up with calpol and neurofen, bongela gel, teething powders, teething rings, biccie pegs (I got them from Asda). Basically anything that might vaguely help.

The food, don't panic. As long as he's eating and drinking I would just go with what he wants.

It is miserable but it does pass Thanks

Assuming he's still having breast milk/formula on top of the things he will eat, he should get enough. Hang in thereFlowers

MaryShelley1818 · 21/10/2018 21:00

Thank you for the kind words x
It’s just so so hard.

Oh god I hate teething! We’ve been ok for the last 6 months as my son had most of his teeth come through by 18 months but now the last couple of molars have started bothering him and it’s carnage. It’s the restless nights, the whinging, the low grade fever, the horrendous nappies and just general misery. 🙄I feel for you OP! But it will get better! Maybe he’ll get a break soon. 🤞🏻In the meantime you just have to keep your cool and give him regular calpol and anbesol and all the teething toys you can get your hands on. What really worked for us was cucumber sticks straight from the fridge. He could chomp on them for hours. 😃Also wrapping an ice cube in a muslin cloth (tie a knot so it’s not a choke hazard) seemed to be quite a popular thing to chew on. Hope he settles soon!
