Aibu to not get qbot at legoland

SEsofty · 20/10/2018 16:27

We’re taking children 8,4 and 2 to legoland in half term. Do I need to get qbots to not have a rubbish day? We’ve saved up to go and got a deal on tickets and will take a picnic but everything I have read says that it will be dreadful without a qbot

But that would be £100 as the two year old won’t need one

Any advice from people who have been. Aibu to not get qbot

We went in August. Almost bought qbots but decided to give it a go first and we could buy during the day if we wanted. Despite it being one of the hottest days in August I think the longest we queued for was 20 minutes. Some rides we only waited 2 or 3 minutes. I'm really pleased that we didn't buy beforehand, it would have been a complete waste of money.

Resurgam2016 · 20/10/2018 16:45

Download the Legoland app to get an indicator of average waiting times this HT. I was there yesterday. We had to wait circa 40 mins for every ride.

brummiesue · 20/10/2018 17:26

The rides literally last a minute or so, it would be painful to queue an hour for them!

SEsofty · 21/10/2018 18:34

So is it really not worth going without it then? I just can’t afford £100

We have never bought them but then again our DCs don't like the bigger more roller-coastery rides.

We get there when it opens; you can belt down through the park and get pretty much straight on to several popular rides (eg driving school). Later in the day the queues build up but there are seldom long queues for things like fairytale brook.

BalloonSlayer · 21/10/2018 18:39

And there are other things that don't have queues anyway - miniland and the Star Wars exhibition, so if it turns out the queues are awful it's not like you get to do nothing,

MegBusset · 21/10/2018 18:43

We're here at the moment (waiting for the fireworks!)

We haven't had Qbots - got here early and went on a couple of rides before the queues got too bad. Since then most of the big rides have been 60+ minutes all day ; we haven't gone on much else but have had a nice day wandering around, seeing the shows, Miniland etc.

So if you want to do a lot of rides you'll need a Qbot but if you just want to do a couple and enjoy wandering around, don't bother!

TheLesserWeevil · 21/10/2018 18:43

We went on Friday (before half-term). The queue times for the 'biggest' rides - Ninjago, Pharoah's doodah etc - never averaged less than an hour. We went on plenty of the smaller rides though and queued roughly 15 - 20 mins each time. If you're eldest is keen to go on the bigger rides then maybe worth considering a qbot for just her/him and one adult?

randomchap · 21/10/2018 18:45

We bought queue jumper tickets for Legoland. As we walked up to the front of one ride I overheard a little boy ask him mum why "those people didn't have to queue" and she replied "they've got more money than us, son".

MegBusset · 21/10/2018 18:47

Just seen your DC ages; with littlies I definitely wouldn't bother. There are plenty of smaller rides where the queues shouldn't be as bad and they will enjoy the Brick or Treat trail that's on this week.

Ghanagirl · 21/10/2018 19:19

@randomchap
Not being goady but how did that make you feel?
Asking because although we could afford it (got merlin pas couple of years when kids were younger) husband was adamant it was wrong message to send the kids and I halfheartedly agreed😏

SandysMam · 21/10/2018 19:22

We went without q bots and it was rubbish. Massive queues for everything. If we went again I would think of it as an additional, necessary cost and save up for longer. Make sure you take a picnic too as the food is ridiculously expensive.

SEsofty · 21/10/2018 19:23

Thanks all. Planning on getting there first thing and risking it

If I ever go back I’m getting qbots. We’ve been twice and weather not great either time.
Having to queue for ages in the wet weather with 2 small kids was miserable!

Valasca · 21/10/2018 19:47

Went last year during term break and it was massively busy. We had xpress qbots because one of mine has autism and she’d struggle with the regular waiting time too. The queues were about an hour for the popular rides, often longer. The weather is meant to be nice, which means more people. Legoland is best on a rainy inset day
.

sickmumma · 21/10/2018 19:49

I would say if you are going on a weekend/ holiday time yes they will be needed if you want to go on the popular rides! We had Merlin passes and went a couple of times and only did a half day there as it was so busy it wasn't enjoyable! If I had have paid a lot of money I would be really disappointed. Especially tricky with young children although there are
Lots of playgrounds and non que stuff (but do you really want to pay that much to take your child to a playpark?)

My dad took DS to Chessington at the end of the summer holidays and they waited 2 hours for one ride!! We went last Monday for DS birthday and walked straight on!

SEsofty · 21/10/2018 19:52

We’ve already booked, so looking like we will have a miserable day

OP posts:
randomchap · 21/10/2018 19:54

@Ghanagirl

I felt awful. Embarrassed, like I was flaunting money and success in front of people with less than me. I wouldn't use that again.

OpalIridescence · 21/10/2018 19:56

We got qbots, not queuing was great. Having people who had queued for ages watch us saunter by had me cringing.

Gazelda · 21/10/2018 19:58

What day are you going OP?
Definitely download the app and plan your day before you get there. There are Facebook groups that have good tips.

BikeRunSki · 21/10/2018 19:59

We went in August 3 years ago. We didn’t have Qbots. I took advise from the MN Survival Guide bad it was fine!! The smaller rides that appeal to the younger children didn’t seem to have such long queues. N fact the submarine and fink train had none at all.

BikeRunSki · 21/10/2018 20:00

fink = Dino, or it might have been a jungle train.

LadyDuplo · 21/10/2018 20:03

randomchap you sound lovely

MegBusset · 21/10/2018 22:35

You won't have a miserable day unless you decide to! We were there from 9am - 7.30pm today and had a great time. Just don't plan to be on rides all day. Get there early - leg it to the big ride you most want to do (we got straight on Ninjago ride which subsequently had 80+ min queues all day). Then do another small ride or two. Then do the Brick or Treat trail and the Enchanted Forest. Have lunch with the pirate or Lego Friends show. Then wander around Miniland, the Star Wars exhibition, take the little ones to the Duplo playground. Maybe do another ride in the afternoon if the queues die down.

Howdoyoudoit31 · 21/10/2018 22:45

I went there in the school holidays recently and by about midday nearly every single queue was over an hour except a couple of the little kid rides and they were about 20-30 mins.

Iv also been there when I heard people trying to buy qbots late afternoon to be told all qbots were sold out!

My son is sen so we get to use the qbot queues. So it’s not just people with more money that use those queues.

I honestly would never go in half term unless I could do the qbot.

BUT the day will be what you make it! There’s miniland to look at, a couple of different shows to enjoy and eat your picnic.

I hope you have a nice time.
