14 year old in question most put out (in a school setting.)

Was this unreasonable?

Why are so many PP so shocked at and enraged at a 14 year old being told to "shut up"? It's not like they were told to fucking shut up Hmm

In a school setting it's inappropriate for an adult to tell a 14yo to shut up. At home, it depends on the context.

@cricketballs3 I would think telling a 14yo to "fucking shut up" would be a sackable offence if said by an adult to a child in school.

LagunaBubbles · 19/10/2018 19:28

Oh for goodness sake how is anyone meant to say yes or no based on a few sentences?

@LynetteScavo "would think telling a 14yo to "fucking shut up" would be a sackable offence if said by an adult to a child in school."

Exactly my point! So why are PP so up in arms at "shut up" - on occasion the nice ways of asking a teenager to stop talking doesn't work.......so they have to be told to shut up!

Just like on occasion they have to be told "no"

"Shut up!" is extremely rude! I work in a school and have never said that. I have said to be quiet, I have used class sanctions and I have told them to leave the room. Never needed to say shut up. I would expect to be in trouble with a parent and headteacher if I did.

I have probably said this once at school. It isn't a polite thing to say. However, there are occasions where politeness isn't the priority.
