HI there everyone. An easily achievable and powerful action we can all take is to switch to buying RECYCLED toilet paper and kitchen roll. I use this exclusively. It feels the same as the usual stuff. However it results in ZERO tree destruction, unlike the "FSC" labelled products, "green-"washed to appear to be a sustainable option but is actually a clever way to dress up the fact that it IS NOT recycled and does not create a market for recycled paper pulp. Recycling facilities have been forced to close all over Europe due to this cunning ploy by the wood industry. Yes they may be planting a new tree for every one they cut down, but recycled products don't require any to be cut any down in the first place. Little or no price difference. My bottom can't tell the difference. Can yours?

Even my princess pea bottom can't tell - am with you!

Bishalisha · 19/10/2018 12:35

I’m going to give it a go next time we top up 😬

BlooperReel · 19/10/2018 12:35

Are there any particular brands or supermarkets that stock recycled kitchen towels etc? I wouldn't know at first glance.

teaandtoast · 19/10/2018 12:40

Any price difference?

TotHappy · 19/10/2018 12:49

I don't buy paper towels at all, use cloths which are then washed - is this better environment wise?

Also, any pointers on where the get recycled loo roll? I buy Tesco own brand and would be very glad to switch but price is a consideration

RedTulip86 · 19/10/2018 12:54

Lots of things to to like stop bleaching the toilets every day or put the washing machine on every day

AllHallowsQueen · 19/10/2018 13:00

Has anyone tried The Who Gives A Crap brand? They do recycled toilet paper and a bamboo one which I am keen to try.

Lost5stone · 19/10/2018 13:02

I'd like to try too! Any in the usual supermarkets? Is it really soft?

MamaLovesMango · 19/10/2018 13:02

We’ve started using Method products for cleaning. We use bars of soap for washing and we’re making the change when the current lot runs out to shampoo/conditioner bars.
Definitely going to look up recycled toilet paper!

Perso25 · 19/10/2018 13:05

Will definitely try this!

UpstartCrow · 19/10/2018 13:05

Instead of toilet paper, use family cloth. If you cant face it or its too much of a hassle, use it just for pee.

AllHallowsQueen I tried the whogivesacrap brand and wasn't impressed at all tbh. For softness it was ok. But had no strength whatsoever. The sheets tore all the time, very easily and so meant using more too. I tried the trial box with the standard/basic and premium but found both rubbish!

ThePhantomRaspberryBlowerOfOld · 19/10/2018 13:39

Waitrose own brand is good

AllHallowsQueen · 19/10/2018 13:44

Iminagony Thanks for the feedback, but disappointed to hear! I see they have a money back guarantee so maybe I will give the trial box a go, would be good to have something environmentally friendly for quick wipes even if it’s not great, and save my beloved Andrex Quilts for serious occasions...

zippey · 19/10/2018 13:45

Why not forego toilet paper and just use your hands and water. Remember to was hands afterwards. Ok it’s not pleasant but it will save so much on paper. Remember under the fingernails too!

Snugglepiggy · 19/10/2018 14:13

People poo poo bidets (excuse the rubbish pun )but we have had one put in every bathroom we have had ,and wouldn't want to be without.Still use some some recycled loo paper, but a quick switch over and a good wash down below works for me.Appreciate not everyone has room or funds for one though.Interesting about the Who gives a crap psper as was thinking of trying it ,mainly because it seems impossible to buy loo roll that's not in plastic bags in supermarkets.Wish you could get it in cardboard boxes.Does anyone know if you can ?

Iamtheoneandonly2018 · 19/10/2018 14:32

I've heard Asian people use shower heads installed at the side of the toilets. Not sure if it's in conjunction with, or instead of toilet paper?

citiesofbismuth · 19/10/2018 16:11

We're not an Asian family, but we have a showery thingy next to the loo to wash with instead of using paper.

It's great and definitely worth having. You can pat dry afterwards using little cloths which then go into the wash, or just have a quick twerk to shake the drips off 😀

We got ours from Amazon and it was about £30.

SimonePNW2 · 25/10/2018 01:09

I have my toilet installed next to the bath with the shower head handy for hygiene duty! great way to save on toilet paper and also use Waitrose own label recycled. Its really good.
