To think this is not my fault and I shouldn’t be penilised for it?! Universal Credit

Hello.

I work 4 days a week, I’m on a low income (17k pro rata) my husband isn’t on a high wage either. I gave an 18 month old who I gave to put in childcare at 600 a month - which is actually the cheapest in the city 🙁.

I applied for UC to help with childcare costs. They said they were still making a decision on it (despite me applying in July Hmm ) but they would give me a payment for my daughter, about 200 per month, which they backdated in September. Fine, you know, better than nothing - it was a real help.
Anyway when I went to check the payment for October, it said £0. I rang up querying it, and was told it was because I had earnt over £2000 last month after tax!!! I laughed and said if this was true, I wouldn’t be claiming UC!!!
Anyway, on further investigation they blamed my employer, saying they submitted my payslips late to HMRC - and that it made the RTI machine calculate my last two payslips as one.
I have spoken to my employer, who got in touch with the account firm they use who have put it writing this is untrue - everything was submitted on time.
Am I wrong in thinking regardless - this is not my fault and I should not be penilised for it?
I’ve escalated it, but I am awaiting a descision. In the meantime I’ve had to use my credit card to try and get through the rest of the month, and I’m beginning to wonder wether it’s even worth me trying to work at all Sad

I have no advice sorry apart from they are bastards. I recently got sanctioned because I missed an appointment. I was in hospital with pneumonia! Apparently that's not a good enough excuse! I'm fighting it but you just get constantly met with computer says no.

Fight it more I hope you sort something but I wouldn't your breath. They treat everyone like mangy dogs who are trying to steal scraps.

Please write to your MP about this. There was one (I can't remember which one!) on the TV on Sunday morning saying he hadn't received any complaints about UC. Whilst I find that very hard to believe, it is very clear that those at the top need to understand the impact of UC on their constituents.

Allchangehere346 · 19/10/2018 11:22

Houseinahill - I’m so sorry to here this what utter bastards! I really hope you are feeling better, and that you get a result from them. Absolute scumbags.

Ohreally - I actually drafted an email to my local mp when I first got the news, but I was very emotional and ended up not sending it, in case I sounded a bit, well unhinged. I have calmed down now so I am going to start a fresh email to the mp.

Thank you for your responses.

Will you not get double next month as there will be no payslip submitted?

house did you let me know? I would bring in my discharge slip as evidence.

Bombardier25966 · 19/10/2018 11:33

@ohreallyohreallyoh They understand, it's just that they don't care. Matt Hancock has already been proven to be a liar about his constituents contacting him.

Ben Bradley claimed similar, yet I know for a fact he is lying because I helped write the email!

Maybe they've all got dodgy email servers ...

There was a large thread on this and I don't think you get the money you didn't get the next month or f you do it's a lot of hassle.

Neshoma, would you be so blasé if you didn't get your wages? "No worries, I'll just live on air for a month..."

Plus, in the situation the OP describes she will not get double next month. The DWP think she has been paid £2K this month, so nil entitlement. Unless they acknowledge their error, next month's payment will be based on next month's salary, so she'll just get the normal amount.

Neshoma · 19/10/2018 11:53

**Sorry 'let them know - but you can let me know too Grin

Allchangehere346 · 19/10/2018 11:53

Thank you for your responses. I’m just having a look through that thread now.

I have sent of an email to my mp. She has been helpful before so I’m hoping she will come through again.

UC is an absolute fucking joke.
