Kids teeth- very slow growing

Hi, my daughters baby teeth started to fall out start of July. The top ones seem quite small but I’m more worried about a bottom tooth that has been growing crooked (almost sideways facing) but has now stopped growing at least for a couple of weeks. It was my daughter who said it to me and when I said oh don’t worry, they’ll be fine she became upset and insistent. She is also coeliac which can lead to dental issues. Has anyone any experience of this? Thank you.

Really they all seem to have stopped really and wonder if teeth can pause and restart growing? The most obvious bottom tooth though is only half the size of the new permanent tooth beside it that fell out about the same time.

They can take ages. They’re all jostling for position as they come through so you may find they look crooked or huge or yellow compared to the baby teeth
This is all normal

They come through Adult sized and in a small child’s mouth can look odd for a bit. But she’ll grow and teeth will move around into place

If you’re really concerned then ask your dentist at her next check up

Hi thank you. To be honest it’s the tooth actually not progessing up that worries me. It has stopped halfway for at least a few weeks. Really I’m wondering can growth restart after this length of time? It being crooked isn’t a concern, though I’m thinking an X-ray might be necessary to see if there is something going on?

And huge teeth would be great! ☺️

One of dd's adukt teeth seemed to stop growing for a while but I noticed today it's catching up to the others. Her teeth fell out very late (she was 8 before she lost her first one) but the dentist says all is fine so I'm trying to take her at her word.

It great to hear your experience. I haven’t come across anyone else in a similiar position up to now. I’m going to make an appointment with our dentist tomorrow so hopefully we get some reassurance too!

My dd lost the front 4 at age 4 a few months after a playground accident and more quickly followed suit, they are all growing back differently and given she had a big gap on the bottom, one is practically side on but dentist isn't concerned....they will start to shift and align as more fall out. Dentist said it was a bit like when kids have growth spurts, same applies to teeth. X Grin

Fridaydreamer · 18/10/2018 22:42

One of DD’s top front teeth fell out and then the new one didn’t appear until 14 months later! Even then it took a good 12 more months to be fully erupted. Teeth can be ridiculously slow in my experience.

AlphaJuno · 18/10/2018 22:43

My dd is 9 now but a couple of years ago when she was 7, she lost 2 baby teeth (canines) and the big ones didn't grow through for about a year, so she had gaps at either side for ages. I was beginning to worried they were 'missing' or something. But eventually they started to come through. Even if teeth are crooked, they can't really see how they are going to turn out of if they'll need straightening until they've lost all their baby teeth. Things can move around a lot and it can take a while.

Feeling a lot better now, thank you for sharing your experiences. I think I had been just seeing how things would turn out but when I saw it was upsetting my daughter I felt terrible for ignoring it. As I mentioned she’s Coeliac so I’ll probably need to check up on the effects of that too. She’s only been on a gluten free diet since she was 5 so not absorbing nutrients properly up to then is a concern.

My daughters teeth took years to fully descend, everyone is different. If you have specific concerns mention to dentist who can refer to a paediatric specialist dentist

doublethink · 18/10/2018 23:48

My son's have done the same, but are fine now.

mrsgalligan · 19/10/2018 19:09

Thank you! Yes I think I will look for a paediatric dentist. More for the peace of mind!
