The government is proposing to make the process of changing gender easier with fewer checks and less bureaucracy.

Many MNers have strong views on the reform of the Act and self ID. This is your chance to present those views to government but time is short.

If you want to take part, please act soon.

If you cannot get the site to work, you can email your responses to [email protected]
Remember to include your name, address and phone number.
The questions are listed on the FairPlay for Women site.

If you agree with/like their stance (and what's not to), there is even a version that's already written for you to email.

The consultation document says the purpose of the consultation is to get opinions on changing the process for getting a GRC to make it less bureaucratic and complex.

There are a number of questions in the later part of the questionnaire that relate to policy matters and not just process, that strongly suggest the government is changing policy as well as process, but those questions are irrelevant to the stated purpose of the consultation. So what's going on here? What is the government not telling us about its intentions in changing the law?

I'm taking this up with my MP. As that's Margaret Beckett and the Labour Party has already set out its stall on trans rights, which I think goes too far without consultation, I don't expect to get much of a response.

I haven't listed the questions I'm suspicious of because the process of completing the questionnaire is so bloody slow and awkward it's taken up far too much of my time when I'm heavily involved in caring for a sick family member. I'll get around to it if and when I have the time. I'm on a fast internet connection and I've been able to go and make a cup of tea and sandwich for two in the time it takes for a page to move on on that document. At least I've got it done.
