AIBU to not go to DD 11's parents disco

So DD's primary school is putting on a disco in a local restaurants function room. It is being organised by the PTA . I'm not going for a few reasons

  1. it's one of those really pathetic ones where everyone dresses like it's Coachella (and spends the amount of money on outfits as they would a Coachella ticket).
  2. The PTA are a bunch of B*tches. seriously they're the most fake people ever. If you've watched American housewife before They're basically the U.K. versions of the Westport moms
  3. DS 14 has a horrible experience in his final year of that school due to the new principal who didn't want him going to the grammar school he was going to since he wanted another student to go (he's a principal who has his favourites). As well as that his teacher tried to slow him down by giving him easier work and when he had to move him up to the harder work he was one of the best in the class So AIBU not to go. The PTA members are tagging me on FB saying I should go with them. Is it ok to say no because they're horrible and go enjoy a night out in a proper disco with my real friends who I actually care about

Of course it's okay not to go! For the sake of playground harmony I wouldn't tell them it's because they're horrible, but just say no thank you, I can't make it.

FittonTower · 18/10/2018 20:45

I get on really well with some of the other mum's at my DD's school and i don't go to this sort of stuff. Organised fun is not for everyone.

Newerversion · 18/10/2018 20:48

PTA events aren't compulsary, just don't go.

IzzyGrey · 19/10/2018 09:46

They're throwing a disco for parents?! Confused

BigSandyBalls2015 · 19/10/2018 09:48

Jesus, a parent's disco Shock. What is Coachella?

Eliza9917 · 19/10/2018 10:56

Where are the funds coming from? Shouldn't they be spent on the children/school?

Newerversion · 19/10/2018 11:06

The disco will be in order to raise funds, it won’t be a free event paid for by funds.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 19/10/2018 11:07

Eh, why should you have to go? Our PTA holds a dinner dance, I’ve never been, I’d rather stick hot pins in my eyes, and I get on with the PTA parents I know. In the words of Zammo and the Grange Hill mob, just say no.

doggylover2 · 19/10/2018 15:55

@BigSandyBalls2015 it's a large multi day music festival people like Beyoncé preform as well as bands and everyone dresses to stand out at least from what I've seen. This disco is held in a dead end venue with horrible music and people pretending to like each other when really they all hate each other's guts

Would of the great things about getting older is that you don't have to go to discos anymore.

Seriously, a disco??!!!!

justfloatingpast · 19/10/2018 16:02

One of the great things.....

arethereanyleftatall · 19/10/2018 16:05

Just don't go. No drama required.

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 19/10/2018 16:09

I can’t imagine anything worse. Have a prior engagement and prime/bribe your child not to inadvertently mention anything to the contrary.

Leeds2 · 19/10/2018 16:09

I imagine the PTA members are tagging you, and anyone else they can think of, because they haven't sold many tickets. Just ignore them, and don't go.

Topseyt · 19/10/2018 16:09

I wouldn't go. Sounds like my idea of hell.

Seniorcitizen1 · 19/10/2018 16:45

I stopped going to discos when about 18, over 40 years ago and nothing would get me to one however good the cause might be

doggylover2 · 19/10/2018 17:56

To be fair it's not that it's a disco. If I liked the people there I'd be there in a shot. But it's full of the most fake people I've seen ever and I don't want to be around that. I'm still a dancer I just don't want to be judged the whole night by stuck up bitches who are only friends because their kids are friends

I'd rather shit in my hands and clap....
