i just... give up with this country...

i loved the tweet in the article:

Kleenex Mansize tissues to rebrand, as the name is deemed sexist. What can we add to the list...Loose Women, Manchester & Mothercare, perhaps?

Am I the only one wondering if either Little Owen or Dr Harrumph was the one to complain, just so that they could then rant about crazy feminists?

Stompythedinosaur · 18/10/2018 18:50

I don't think anyone is suggesting that man sized tissues are the most pressing feminist issue, but I do think that they contribute to a sort of sexist wallpaper that women and girls are constantly presented with.

John4703 · 18/10/2018 18:50

Lacypants ........ I always assumed they were "mansized" as they were for, uh, blokes to keep by the bed for... Cleaning up after masturbation

JoyceTempleSavage ......... It’s a marketing ploy They’ll be back By Popular Demand in no time, bigger and manlier than ever. With David Gandy wiping his man sized nose on a billboard

Can you imagine the complaints if the advertising sort of combined these two thoughts.

beclev24 · 18/10/2018 18:54

I just don’t get all the “is this all people have to worry about/ shouldn’t we concentrate on the pay gap”type comments.

It’s possivle to care about more than one thing you know! I care about the pay gap and also care about what I’m going to watch on TV tonight for eg. And that same thing could be said of anyone posting on mn about this. Shouldn’t you have better things to do with your time like campaigning against the pay gap?

Bluelady · 18/10/2018 19:00

Just when I think the world's gone as crazy as it possibly can ....

Feminist for over 40 years who doesn't give a flying fuck what they call tissues.

StripySocksAndDocs · 18/10/2018 19:04

Why get up in arms about it being changed from man sized to extra large?

This was on the radio (it being an exciting subject!) this morning. some man phoned in all knickers twisted and not under the cover that it was ridiculous and that if this was changing then women shouldn't get cheaper insurance (and anyway men are better drivers because there's more of then and drive lorries).

It's weird that were called man sized in the first place. Why was it? Making tissues masculine. Were they carried by tough man for manly tissue emergencies. Did men fear using lady tissues will cause them to eat delicate sandwiches and admire kittens?

John4703 · 18/10/2018 19:05

I meant to add to my post - 2 above this- that it is better to concentrate on things that matter. Pay gap, lack of women in senior roles, domestic abuse, men getting away with rape. The inequality that society often condones.
To me that sort of thing matter not the name of tissues.

StripySocksAndDocs · 18/10/2018 19:12

was there a long campaign or something to get the size changed to extra large?

Did I miss the marches? The protests outside Kleenex's head offices?

Or were there a few tweets and someone in marketing said 'oh let's change the name of the size, tissues are just tissues.'

CatsEye99 · 18/10/2018 19:15

It's weird that were called man sized in the first place. Why was it? Making tissues masculine.

Because men are bigger. These tissues qre bigger.

letsgetreadytosamba · 18/10/2018 19:31

I’m not a rampant feminist by any stretch of the imagination, but I agree with stompy. It’s just another example of mindless sexism.

OpinionCat · 18/10/2018 20:06

But surely it's just a bit... pathetic... ?

I feel we're becoming offended by anything and everything, where does it stop ? Like I said is mothercare now going to be renamed because it's offensive to fathers? It's just a bloody name! There's better things in life to worry about.

This.

This wasn't a massive campaign. Someobe noticed and changed it. So what? Sure its not the most pressing issue in the world, but it matters a little. Gendering tissues is unnecessary.

It's also the many, tiny actions of many individuals that will help drive change. I wouldn't be happy with 'lady-tissues' either. If a woman challenges a small cat call, are we calling that 'pathetic'? Or is it recognising that letting little things slide contributes to bigger problems?

AlphaBravo · 18/10/2018 20:17

'Mansized' was to imply they were big enough to have a wank in to. Fyi 😂

letsgetreadytosamba · 18/10/2018 21:04

I’m not offended by mansize tissues, but I do think times have changed and it’s time to move forward. Plenty of brands change for reasons like this as thinking (correctly) changes.

StoneofDestiny · 18/10/2018 21:37

Remember Five Boys Chocolate anybody?

What next?
Transgender Tissues?
Transitioning Tissues?
Haven't made my mind up yet tissues?

kitkatsky · 18/10/2018 21:41

Can't say I've ever been offended by the "mansize" branding, but I can only say am just super relieved that nobody is taking away my massive tissues, they're just getting a rebrand!

ourkidmolly · 18/10/2018 22:03

It's obviously a publicity stunt. Free.

ourkidmolly · 18/10/2018 22:03

Advertising! I meant to say.

tillytrotter1 · 18/10/2018 22:20

Comments like this and your previous drivel are the reason that many people, of whatever gender they are today, find feminism a joke. Well done, you and the rest.

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 18/10/2018 22:25

How long till the Lady Shave gets the axe?

OpinionCat · 18/10/2018 22:28

@tillytrotter1 exactly! The very meaning of feminism is becoming diluted by this petty crap we are seeing almost everyday. Where does the line get crossed? We are becoming a PC obsessed nation, distracting us from the real issues that feminism was created to tackle in the first place.

It's a joke!

OP posts:
letsgetreadytosamba · 18/10/2018 22:29

Tilly, did you mean to be so rude? Differing opinions are ok...

There’s no need for tissues to be gendered. Calling them large rather than man sized makes far more sense. It’s not about being up in arms or hysterical, but it’s a logical change to make.

Stompythedinosaur · 18/10/2018 22:35

Comments like this and your previous drivel are the reason that many people, of whatever gender they are today, find feminism a joke. Well done, you and the rest.

What total rubbish!

OpinionCat · 18/10/2018 22:38

@letsgetreadytosamba
But it's not as if it's a new brand that has to decide between the two names, it's an existing brand that has caused no controversy for years and now suddenly, they have changed it to pander to the ever growing PC obsessed few. Like I said, I just think feminists efforts are better placed elsewhere - re naming a box of tissues isn't going to actually affect anyone's lives; it just makes them look moany.

OP posts:
64ChewsBrains · 18/10/2018 22:40

But I enjoy the minor thrill of petty disobedience when using them!
