to ask how you keep a day off...

...to/for yourself?

I only work 4 days a week. Ideas of day of spent languishing on the sofa, enjoying quiet and time alone.

In reality I end up like a blue arsed fly doing house tasks, doctors appointments, shopping, school run....

So, how do you do it? It's my day of tomorrow... I want to spend it on myself!

What are your weekends like? We have 2 bad sleepers so most of our weekends incorporate a nap for me both days and DH ocasionally I nap most weekends - perils of ME.

I can't work from home because of the nature of my job and my husband works alternate weekends.

We have taekwando at 10 on a Sunday but that's it for scheduled events.

*OP, can you not get your blood test done at the local pharmacy?

Most chemists do this now, ring round your nearest one.* I've never heard of this service before - I will look into it. Unfortunately because of it's vicinity to the hospital (i.e. next door) our GP doesn't offer blood tests.

You don't get a day off like your husband does because a) you have a chronic medical condition - how often does he have to go for a blood test at the hospital? Not very often I'd wager and b) he doesn't do the washing up etc - he relaxes rather than that.

The problem you have is that you don't see your day off as a day off - you see it as the admin/chores day. And unfortunately for you (due to the medical condition) some of those are unavoidable. But others aren't - you just need to change your thinking if you want a genuine day off.

Be as busy as you can be on your 'on' days- squeeze as much as you can in as you are going to be on the go anyway. That's my method and I can then usually grab a weekend morning and most of the afternoon guilt free relaxing.

I have 3 days a week off and this is my usual routine... Tuesday night do any cleaning
Order online shop to be delivered Friday
I do a wash load a day so have no build up of laundry.

Wednesday first day off I do any admin, any bits I need from shops and try and go the gym.

Thursday I usually go out for lunch and have a mooch around the shops.

Friday I catch up on any housework, wait in for my shopping and any other things being delivered.
Get my work stuff ready for the week

I need to re-instate weeknight washes.

I also need to sleep. I am so so fucking tired

I have exactly the same quandary. I would love to go to the gym etc but in actual fact I'm currently deciding whether to get the lawn mowed first or clean out my shit tip of a car first tomorrow. I will schedule in nap time and also would like to try and get a GP appt for excessive tiredness and general feeling crap but not sure if I will get one.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/10/2018 20:02

If I don't do it, it doesn't get done. Well, actually, it would, just not as/when/how I do it
But that's your choice OP. you simy have to make different choices.
Washing up done on the night after dinner should leave you with veryite on Friday mornings. Clothes washes done in week. If you load and unload then DH folds and puts away. Or you load, he unloads and folds, you put away.

What other chores do you do on a Friday?

Blood tests take a coffee or grab one in the lobby assuming it isn't fasting. Take a book. Chill. Meet your mate. Come home and nap.

YOU have to CHOOSE to do something different if yuiu want anything to change.

Honeybooboo123 · 19/10/2018 10:23

I have a day off each week. I go have coffee, write, talk to friends, shop and laze on sofa.

I have a cleaner, a gardener and I get my groceries delivered.

I might try and organise a cupboard or something but other than that...

Alwayscheerful · 19/10/2018 10:31

Our pharmacy will take your bloods for a £5 fee there is also a mobile device who will come to you that's a little more £. I can't be bothered queuing I park outside the chemist and pay my £5.
