To say I could eat 500 scallops

HappilyHarridan · 18/10/2018 11:51

DP says I couldn’t. I say, if I was really hungry and all there was to eat was scallops then it’d take about 500 to fill me up, because they’re basically air. DP says the most anyone could realistically consume is 30.

How much would 500 cost?! 6 - 10 would be my limit. I like them au gratin, or just fried in butter/garlic with green salad. Also depends on size. I also like them fried with garlic and chill and served with linguine.

RosaNullaSpina · 18/10/2018 15:47

Scallop and prawn curry is also good.

Igneococcus · 18/10/2018 15:47

With or without the orange bit?

PinkHeart5914 · 18/10/2018 15:47

No I don’t think you’d manage 500! Your dp is correct on this one

3luckystars · 18/10/2018 15:47

I need to mullet over.

Poloshot · 18/10/2018 15:49

Don't talk shit

itsboiledeggsagain · 18/10/2018 15:52

How do people find scallops filling? That is the shocker of the day!

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 18/10/2018 15:57

With or without the orange bit?

Without the orange bit.

RosaNullaSpina · 18/10/2018 16:02

Orange bit is nice kept for hot buttery toast next morning.

PickettBowtruckles · 18/10/2018 16:13

I have never had scallops but this thread and the scallop love is making me want them!

Igneococcus · 18/10/2018 16:14

I love the orange bit, never had it on toast, must try that.

HappilyHarridan · 18/10/2018 16:15

Interesting, so majority agree with DP, I may not tell him that. I don’t actually have access to 500 scallops so it’s all a bit hypothetical, but I am convinced it would take that many to fill me up. I do have a ginormous appetite. Would it really be a weeks worth of calories?? I just assumed scallops are basically calorie free, what them having the consistency of fishy air and all.

OP posts:
HappilyHarridan · 18/10/2018 16:24

Ps my assertion about being able to eat 500 was based on the assumption that there would be no potato/bread accompaniment in this hypothetical meal, as obviously that would be a game changer in terms of how many scallops I could eat.

OP posts:
TeddyIsaHe · 18/10/2018 16:29

What scallops have you been eating that have the consistency of fishy air? Because they’re not good ones if they’re like that! Proper king scallops are fat and juicy and really meaty. You definitely couldn’t manage 500 of those beauts.

3luckystars · 18/10/2018 16:30

Well it was definitely the right plaice to ask.

iklboo · 18/10/2018 16:31

Calories. A serving of five large sea scallops weighing 20 grams each has 111 calories, which makes up 6 percent of a 2,000-calorie diet. Scallops are high in protein, low in fat and rich in several essential micronutrients.

So that's 11,100 calories you'd be eating. Maybe a bit much in one sitting 😄

bonnyblithe · 18/10/2018 16:34

I'd say even his Mickey smelt like scallops.

Be careful what you wish for.*

This is the worst thing I've ever read but it made me laugh

ExFury · 18/10/2018 16:35

I'd say even his Mickey smelt like scallops.

Today on sentences you never thought you’d read... Grin

LavenderBush · 18/10/2018 16:36

Yes, you could, and so could I. Between us we could put away 1000 scallops easy. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH SCALLOPS IN THE WORLD TO SATE OUR SCALLOP HUNGER!!!

LavenderBush · 18/10/2018 16:37

Also they are best eaten raw with a dab of soy sauce. But obviously need to be sashimi quality for that. Mmmmmm.

MiggledyHiggins · 18/10/2018 16:39

I love scallops but after a dozen I'd probably feel a bit green!

HappilyHarridan · 18/10/2018 16:40

Teddy I’ve had scallops in mega posh restaurants, and the cheap frozen ones, and I’ve never really been able to tell the difference. I love them but they just don’t fill me up at all!

11,100 calories in one sitting does sound rather a lot, I’ll give you that.

OP posts:
HappilyHarridan · 18/10/2018 16:42

Lavender I think there is/was a scallop war going on at sea. Maybe if we got involved in that, and won, we would have enough scallops to fill us up!

OP posts:
seventhgonickname · 18/10/2018 16:43

Good job they're to expensive to test you claim!

Urbanbeetler · 18/10/2018 16:44

Wait til you have one bad one. Just one bad one and it’ll take you 5 years to be able to look at a scollop again.

By the way scollop rhymes with bollock right?
