Bin this junk food right now?

I need a bit of a hand hold! My dad has got T2 diabetes (completely under control). I am overweight and was in denial I guess. Until now. I'm 15st 9lbs and 5ft 2

I've just eaten a pack of 5 creams eggs, some Cadbury's snow balls and a Lindt salted caramel bar. I am an apple shaped binge eater, as you can probably gather. I also have PCOS so I have 2 predispositions, if that's the right word?

I've just read a whole thread on here about a lady with T2 diabetes which has just stopped me in my tracks.

In my handbag I have another 2 packs of eggs and 2 packs of snowballs. These need to go in the bin right now don't they. What do I need to do to get this shit out of my system as fast as possible? (In a dietary sense of course!)

Why did you even buy them?

Bin them tonight. Tomorrow get some help.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 17/10/2018 19:38

It seems a shame to bin them. Do you have anyone you could give them to? Or donate to a food bank?! (Ours put little treats in the boxes as well as practical stuff.)

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 17/10/2018 19:40

Good luck, by the way. And well done for recognising you need to make lifestyle changes.

If you're looking for some ideas, I can recommend the 4 Pillar Plan by Dr Chatterjee. It's not specifically for diabetes, but it's very good. I actually walked away from the supermarket bakery section the other day without buying anything.

Iaimtomisbehave1 · 17/10/2018 19:40

@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo

It sort of seems like she will eat them tonight if they aren't gone right now. She should be pouring bleach on them and putting them in the bin and then seeing what eating support groups she can join tomorrow.

Causeimunderyourspell · 17/10/2018 19:45

@Iaimtomisbehave1 because I'm an idiot and a binge eater. I'm not going to take my purse to work anymore and then I can't buy any as I have no self control. Yes you're right, I will just end up binging on them as well.

Eating that much chocolate must have made you feel a but sick. No one eats themselves sick because they enjoy it. So you're not doing it for fun or because you like it. And that means stopping isn't just a simple choice.

You will need help. Check out what there is in your area or pop in to see your GP if you need therapy for the reason you eat. But it is important you find some group, even if it's weight watchers or whatever, to help you.

Rixera · 17/10/2018 20:07

Have you had a look at BEAT? They have some binge eating disorder support x

spugzbunny · 17/10/2018 20:09

As a fellow binge eater ... you need to open them, cover the actual food in washing up liquid and throw it in the bin. Good luck. One day at a time!

AllHallowsQueen · 17/10/2018 20:15

Read the Brain Over Binge Books, especially the workbook. Really interesting. And yes, throw it in the bin!

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 17/10/2018 20:20

I could have eaten that a few years ago, I went cold turkey and TOTALLY gave up chocolate, sweets, cake etc. Hell for about three days but now do t even think about it, I would say I'm the equivalent of an alcoholic who does t drink now!

Binge eating all that sugar and fat is a such a vicious circle but if it possible to beat op 👍🏻

Causeimunderyourspell · 17/10/2018 20:28

@FabulouslyGlamorousFerret wow well done that's really inspiring thank you! Do you have absolutely none now? Such as no birthday cake for example?

Throw them in the bin and pour bleach over them. Start today- right now- no tomorrow no Monday- today! If you start today think how good you will feel sooner!

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 17/10/2018 20:34

That seems such a sickening waste of food to put washing up liquid on it. Can’t you just drop it at the food bank?

Raven88 · 17/10/2018 20:38

@WhenIWasAYoungWarthog I am also a binge eater and I doubt they will last the night if OP keeps them in the house.

Raven88 · 17/10/2018 20:43

I used to really struggle with my binge eating and would go through a lot of junk food and I had to finish the packet. I couldn't stop myself. I started to notice that I was hiding the packets from myself . Now I remind myself that If I buy junk food I'll eat it all and feel crap. So I'll buy low cal snacks that I can eat without feeling guilty. Tomorrow I start counselling.

NutellaFitzgerald · 17/10/2018 20:45

People who suggest the op pop them in a food bank collection are clearly not binge eaters.

Those creme eggs are in clear and present danger RIGHT NOW and the OP has opportunity to scarf the lot before she gets anywhere near a food bank collection.

Binge eating is like an addiction and hanging about is a risk. You wouldn't tell an alcoholic to 'hang onto that vodka and give it to someone. Best course of action is to get rid and not think it a waste to get rid (eating something you don't need is no less a waste)

lynmilne65 · 17/10/2018 20:57

Well Id hang on to vodka though sober for 30 + years!!

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 17/10/2018 20:58

Actually Nutella I have struggled with emotional eating in the past (I think the term was compulsive eating, but I can't remember - I read a book with about five different categories, all similar but slightly different). And still do at times of severe stress. I just wouldn't throw perfectly decent food in the bin.
