I'm mid 40s. Never had a tattoo or piercing (except 2 in ears).

I'm thinking of something big but under clothing. Like a lion perhaps.

No idea what is involved.

Am I insane?

My dad had his first (and only) tattoo at 59.

I’m mid-20s and have plenty of designs in mind but still haven’t gotten around to it. I’m sure I will eventually though, be it soon or in 30 years time!

Bible you and your wife’s tattoos are stunning!!

StarfishSandwich · 19/10/2018 12:16

😂 Binky, not bible!

Gotta love how people who think they look ugly get called hyacinth bucket Grin
Maybe we just dont like them? I dont even think the ones posted here are beautiful. They are better than some ive seen but not great. Am I not allowed an opinion? You are not cool just because you have tats either. Have them but listen to yourselves, you are as judgey as the rest of us who dont like tats.

A bit like telling OP that she'd be joining the "chav army"...

SeaEagleFeather · 19/10/2018 14:53

yesyes, not liking them and saying so is fine!

But some people are really unpleasantly rude
chav army
It's so naff and such a cliché. Even worse with older people. Why graffiti your body like a public toilet wall?
Tattoos on women are so rank. ...But I judge anyone with visible ones. Ugh
they're naff and scuttery. yeuch

Anyone's allowed and opinion and you've been polite, but some people really haven't.

yesyesyess · 19/10/2018 17:18

People are more honest online than in real life. We have an acquaintance with a huge badly drawn lion tattoo on her back and I couldn't bring myself to say it to her face. What's done is done anyway. I doubt she could get it removed well, and it was so big that to cover it she'd need an even bigger tattoo. I just said it was nice because she obviously expected us to say that when she showed us her tats, but it really was not good.

I like tattoos and I think that it is a great idea to get them when you are getting older, because you are less likely to get something impulsive and regret it.

I also think that as we age, our bodies change a lot, often in ways that we don't really like. A tattoo is a good way to put your own stamp on your body and make a change that you have actively chosen. A way of taking control of how you age.

It's your skin, your money if you want one get one. I had my first at 17, now 52 and still getting them

Seryph · 20/10/2018 11:44

I'm 28 and just putting down a deposit today for my next tattoo. Each of mine were originally drawn by me (though two are Harry Potter inspired), and drawn up at least a year before being done. The first I designed at 14, but I didn't have it done until I was 21.
All of my tattoos can be covered up by clothing, not that I normally bother.
I can't stand people telling other people what to do with their bodies. So long as you aren't hurting anyone, do as you will.
I think tattoos are great, just do your research, talk to different tattooists and parlours first. Find one you are comfortable with.
