to go to minor injuries unit?

Posting for MN jury traffic.

Right hand has started hurting and is a bit swollen around thumb. Thought it was arthritis but now think maybe it's tendonitis. Has been going on about a month. Its not debilitating but is painful and affects things like using computer mouse and secateurs.

I don't want it to get worse so would like someone who knows about these things to look at it. What would be best - GP? Minor Injuries Unit? Practice nurse? Dr Google? Work telephone physio service?

Help me decide

I think GP or nurse, plus a DSE Assessment at work to see if anything can help whilst at a computer

Gp

GP
They’ll normally give you a support, and possibly some anti inflammatories

I'm not familiar with MIU, can they refer you on if need be? I think your GP is probably your best tbh.

Minor Injuries Unit is a small, basic A&E unit for MINOR INJURIES . This isn't an emergency or a minor injury so you should go to your GP.

I've taken DD to a MIU on a number of occasions now and it's been fab tbh! Bear in mind that although they can have long opening hours, you may want to check before setting off that they have x-ray facilities open at the time you are going if you think you may need an x-ray.

Can be a bit of a wait, though.

Amicompletelyinsane · 17/10/2018 17:47

Depends how bad it is. Generally gp but I went to miu and they managed to refer me on and get seen far sooner than gp could have referred

In this scenario MIU staff will refer you back to your own GP for investigatory x-rays, & referral if necessary. Over the counter non steroidal anti-inflammatories, e.g. ibuprofen (nurofen) if you can take these, & a wrist-thumb splint/support, if needed, are available at your local pharmacy
