Need to put on weight fast but don't know how

I feel like such a freak for this. As a result of anxiety I've now developed phagophobia. Its the worst thing I've ever experienced and its getting me so down. Basically a fear of swallowing - I become convinced my throat isn't capable of swallowing so I end up spitting my food out. Its so depressing, I walk around the shop looking at all the stuff I want to eat.

I know I need to sort this out and so will make an appointment to see my GP.

But in the meantime I desperately need to put weight on. I've always been skinny so as you can imagine with this phobia its just getting worse and worse and im starting to look really unwell.

Is it possible on a liquid diet to actually gain weight? Can anyone please advise? Ive got some huel, maybe I should eat more of that? Im drinking soup and having thin porridge.

Can I actually gain weight?

My love of rice pudding & smothering everything in cheese sauce piled on the weight for me. So did readybreak with full fat milk & cream. Oh and custard, which I can eat a whole can of cold.

Ensure shakes. They are used for people who struggle to get the right nutrition down ( the elderly, kids or people who struggle to eat :-)). Taste sweet so not bad.

Get well soon

Another vote for ensure here. They come in "juice" or milk form and are 330cals for 300ml, plus crammed full of vitamins for those who it's their only bit source. It's part of my chemo diet so I'm on one a day alongside a crappy limited list of food I can eat. A dietician is your best bet but hope you get a better one than I did though the hospital - she gave me a list of food and just left me with it quoting "patient preference" on using it which is rubbish when the education is not behind it. So what I'm trying to say is make sure you push for the help you need and follow through.

Carbs, carbs and yet more carbs.

Have you had any help for your anxiety problem? CBT can help with this problem. If you're in England find out if you have a local IAPT service. You may not need a GP referral but you should see your GP from a health/weight loss perspective. It's a treatable problem! Good luck.

Hi @BrightLightsAndSound so sorry to resurrect an old thread but I've been searching all day for help with phagophobia and I too am suffering with what you had. I was wondering if you ever got treatment and what worked with you? I truly am the most desperate I have ever been and never had any medical issues before. Thank you
