Edinburgh Castle with a buggy?

Just that really...
Going to Edinburgh Castle tomorrow and still not sure if I should take the buggy for my almost 2 year old or not. Need to walk a mile before we get there.

Its at the top of quite a steep hill!

Yes it’s a very steep hill up to the castle, I would definitely take a buggy, enjoy, I love Edinburgh Castle 🏰

A sling is the other option. But he's 13kg...

If you are used to carrying in a sling/carrier then I'd take that - it's not just that it's a steep walk up to the Castle it's steep and cobbled in the there as well, so I think getting a buggy around would be challenging!

The cobbles will be the problem with a buggy, let alone the steep hill.

I'd use a sling if you're used to it.

Frankly, choose somewhere else, it will be a pain.

I’ve been there with a buggy, I don’t remember it being particularly difficult to get round with one... it was a while ago though and I’ve been since so I don’t really remember.

How far can you look on Streetview? The esplanade is misleading as it's smooth with a gentle incline. Once inside it's cobbles, cobbles everywhere! And steep, very steep.
Make sure you're there for 1pm and stay near the cafe for the full benefit.

I've been there with a buggy, particularly useful for making your way through he crowds, however, the hill is steep.

Have you been to the museum yet? It's fab, and free (though I'm sure they'd appreciate a donation), and lots of things for little ones

Take a sling it means you aren't retrictwd for access. If needed grab a taxi to the castle initially x

Take both. Then you've got options. Does your buggy have fairly robust wheels? It's very cobbly.

Visited with a 3 year old in a bog standard Maclaren pushchair on a very hot day. I'm fat and unfit but had no problems with the hill or the cobbles. We had a great day out and really enjoyed son's response to the 1 o'clock gun so make sure that you don't miss it.

Take the sling if the buggy doesn't have big wheels. You'd also have to leave the buggy to access quite a lot of areas e.g. the military prison, royal apartments, so you'd need to sling anyway if you want to get your moneys worth.

There are quite a few bits of the castle that don't seem buggy friendly to me. Steps, cobbles, narrow parts, crowded parts- and eternal incline. I found it tough going with any additional baby gear Blush. Of your options- I'd sling it.

Take the buggy. It will get you to the inner keep, but you'll have to leave it to enter certain parts of the castle. The restaurant stored it for us while we are.

I’m fairly sure I did a buggy/sling combo. Use the buggy as much as you can, but if it becomes difficult, pop the baby in the sling.

Thank you for al the input. We didn't take the buggy but went for a back carrier. We walked the Royal Mile up to the castle and it went great. My DH actually did the carrying. When we reached the Castle we let DC2 'loose' and it was great not having to worry about a buggy.
On the way back down DC2 slept in the carrier and I had DC1 (4 yo and walked a mile up the hill) in another back sling. Great outing and workout!
