AIBU to grind my own coffee beans?

DP thinks I'm a coffee snob. I'm aware that being all into coffee is quite a hipster thing these days, and I do have quite a lot of tattoos and good taste in music, so maybe I'm a little worried.

But it's just that I bought a little hand grinder thing a couple of months ago and coffee made from freshly ground beans tastes so much better! I'm quite lazy though and am getting sick of doing it by hand multiple times a day, so I want to get an electric one. AIBU?

I’ve got the James Martin electric grinder. Works great for nuts and spices too.

Coffee snobs are allowed!!
Keep the bag of beans in the freezer, they last longer. Use an elastic band to keep the bag airtight.
Make enough for the day then keep in a resealable sandbag in the fridge. Allow no air to get to it.
Instant tastes like battery acid and I really struggle to politely turn it down when offered!!
Proper snob!!

Lol, sandwich bag not sandbag!!
Hmm

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 17/10/2018 08:25

I'll try that thanks.

My DH uses the nutribullet to grind then an aeropress. He gets his coffee delivered from a local supplier and drinks it black.

I'm happiest with a simple cup of Yorkshire tea

We have a bean to cup machine. Only problem is now instant coffee tastes awful so you sound like a bit of an idiot at friends asking what type of coffee it is and then deciding you actually want a cup of tea

I think the preferred solution is just to drink more coffee! Then the bag doesn't need to last long Grin

Since starting to grind my own I've definitely begun realising how mediocre most other coffee is. It's like being woken up from the matrix. There's no going back now.

Bean to cup is expensive though - much cheaper is an espresso machine and a separate grinder. DH has a Gaggia Cubika and a blade grinder which I'm probably going to upgrade to a burr grinder for his Christmas so thanks for the tip you guys Smile

Costa and Starbucks are dead to me since I got my Delonghi Magnifica. DH just stole it for his home office though so I treated myself to a Melitta Barista. Off to have one now.....

YANBU - DH and I spent a huge amount of money on a barista coffee machine that grinds beans at different ratios so we can have our perfect coffee... not to say I won't drink a cup of instant if offered either. It's not snobby it's just having something the way you like it.

I got a Krups burr grinder last Christmas. Love it. Have it set for one cup of perfect (to me) spoon dissolving strength with the grind for my ancient tiny drip machine. I should have got one years ago.

Coffee beans I get from here, either in person if I'm in the area or by mail.

Beans live in the fridge with a clip on.

I love the Matrix analogy. You can't go back. Grin

One of these is pretty good and not massive expensive or very large. Delonghi KG79 Electric Coffee Burr Grinder With Adjustable Grinding

I have that grinder, bought after reading loads of reviews; it scored highly in all of them. I ordered it from Argos, the price was competitive and the local store delivered it the same day.
