After mock exams for year 11 DC's school do an awards day where they receive their mock GCSE exam grades as certificates as if it's their final grade.

I can imagine this is lovely if you get good grades and possibly a kick up the backside for those who can put more in but aren't but what about those who don't get 'passes' but have tried their best?
Honestly mine really struggles and I am worried they will think what's the point of they don't get what they want.

Yes, mock results day is very normal.

Thanks Macosie.
That is interesting! We never had anything like that!
Be interested to know how well it works, if those getting amazing grades get complacent or if those who don't pass give up and if it encourages them.

'but what about those who don't get 'passes' but have tried their best?'
Well this would be the same in the summer though wouldn't it? It's a sad thing about life.
Usually kids do better in the real exams than in the mocks. For the mocks there isn't time for much revision and the topics are still being taught. Teachers are reluctant to hype too much for the mocks be the kids need to peak for the real exams.

do they publicly tell everyone what people got for their mocks or do they just hand over certificates? seems a bit OTT

i never had that (GCSEs were 12 years ago), all results were private ... and it was the same on results day!! Turn up at school, get my piece of paper, don't have to share if you don't want to.
