To serve a cake when I've scraped the mixture off the floor

So baby was screaming and I'm pretty tired, and I dropped the tin on the kitchen floor just before it went in the oven. Just spooned it back in and stuck it in the oven... I mopped last night and the cake will bake at 160 c for 50 mins. AIBU to serve to my guests due in 30 mins?

I think the only mistake you have made is admitting it.

Otherwise, you serve that cake, spirit sister! Grin

SilverLining10 · 15/10/2018 15:28

It doesnt matter that it was baked. It's a disgusting thing to do to someone. I'm assuming you walked on that floor as well?

MereDintofPandiculation · 15/10/2018 15:29

I'd eat it myself, warn others in the household so they could decide, and not serve it to guests. But if there's no danger of visible muck surfacing, you will probably get away with it.

I assume that people who live here are immune to the majority of our household bugs but that other people are maybe not. It seems to work.

Awrite · 15/10/2018 15:36

I'm pretty appalled by the amount of posters who think nothing of it.

Mixture would have gone in the bin. Please don't serve it to unsuspecting guests.

Enigmam · 15/10/2018 15:36

That's disgusting! What about the fluff & debris on the floor? 🤮

sourpatchkid · 15/10/2018 15:37

But she has a clean floor? I wouldn't care

Ohyesiam · 15/10/2018 15:44

Don’t think twice, just serve it

NurseButtercup · 15/10/2018 15:46

Assuming your guests are good friends? Tell them and let them decide.

If I was your friend and guest this evening, I would politely decline and perhaps offer t go on a cake run to the local shop.

SputnikBear · 15/10/2018 15:46

Ew, what a disgusting thing to do to people! It wouldn’t even have occurred to me to scrape it up. Totally unacceptable.

AviatorShades · 15/10/2018 15:48

So what's your AIBU, OP?Grin

Bloodybridget · 15/10/2018 15:50

A friend of mine once made a beautiful vegetable terrine as a starter, had a few drinks, and saw it slide off the plate as she carried it to the table. She scooped it back off the floor and served it to her (very rich and rather famous) FIL!

Lweji · 15/10/2018 15:51

I can't think of anything nastier that could be on the floor than in the eggs, so, you're fine, OP.

I realise that the guests are probably eating the cake by now. Let us know if they find pieces of dirt.

Lweji · 15/10/2018 15:52

Soak the cake in something alcoholic just to be on the safe side.

TrudeauGirl · 15/10/2018 15:53

No I'm sorry that's disgustingEnvy

TroysMammy · 15/10/2018 15:58

I never told friends that I caught my cat licking prepared Bolognese that was cooling in the saucepan. We are still alive. The cat isn't though as it was 15 years ago Grin.

greatpotential · 15/10/2018 15:58

So we have no shoes in the house and the floor really has been well cleaned, but it is the floor Confused I'm definitely having a slice...

OP posts:
Lweji · 15/10/2018 16:01

Don't worry. Worst case, it will improve your immune system.

SputnikBear · 15/10/2018 16:01

I think you need to tell people and let them make up their own minds. Don’t serve them disgusting floor cake without saying anything.

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 15/10/2018 16:03

I am very easy going when it comes to decisions like that for myself alone, but you simply can't serve it to guests, you just can't. Even explaining it to them to make their own decision puts them in a difficult position, and making your guests feel uncomfortable is almost as big a faux pas as the cake itself.

Bestseller · 15/10/2018 16:03

It's a it going to hurt anyone but I would be a bit concerned that they might find fluff/hair in it

pinkhorse · 15/10/2018 16:05

That's just gross. Your poor guests Confused

Bestseller · 15/10/2018 16:05

Argh... It's not going to hurt anyone

thisneverendingsummer · 15/10/2018 16:07

Totally foul. Heaven knows what shit is on your floor. EWWWWWWWWWWW.

Lweji · 15/10/2018 16:08

It looks like some people think they live in a germ free world, except for floors. Grin
And toilet seats.

Do you ever hold any eggs with your bare hands? Hmm

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 15/10/2018 16:08

I once was at a dinner party when I walked into the kitchen just in time to see the host drop a dish on the floor.

I turned on my heel and went straight back out and sat and quietly ate the dinner 10 mins later Grin

i'm sure he saw me but it's never been mentioned Grin
