to think they should just keep me in hospital?

Just been told I need to have twice daily CTGs at the hospital, but they aren't admitting me. There's a problem with the baby and the placenta is looking like it may not be functioning properly.

I live 1 hour away from the hospital. Is it unreasonable of them to expect me to either drive for 4 hours a day and pay a crazy amount for parking, or spend all day every day in the hospital coffee shop? Or should they really be admitting me?

I don't know that I can actually afford the fuel for the next 3-5 weeks (I'm 37 weeks pregnant at the moment).

So much on my plate at the moment and just want to make sure baby is okay, however 4 hours of driving every day is slightly daunting.

Very anxious...

Yes they should admit you.

If you’re expected there daily the hospital parking peeps can usually issue you a weeks pass at a time.

If it need doing, it needs doing. It could help your baby.

Do you have other DC to look after?

I would make the journey once a day, and download a tonne of stuff to my tablet and make sure I took food and drink.

Is there an option to stay in relatives accommodation so you are on hospital grounds but not a patient? My hospital has a bungalow funded by the league of friends.

MRSMOE · 15/10/2018 13:22

@Singlebutmarried I can ask about a weekly pass definitely.

I have a DSD that I do the school run for but other arrangements can be made. It's not a problem.

It just seems mad to spend every day (including weekends) driving to and from the hospital and sitting in a chair in a dingy coffee shop for the remaining weeks of my pregnancy.

I do understand however that it's not a hotel and it costs to keep people in, hence why I'm asking if it's unreasonable. I'm so tired and don't think it's the best thing, especially as they are considering induction. I'm going to be exhausted.

I can see why you are frustrated realistically you will be travelling 2 hours (to the hospital and home again) twice a day for the next 3+ weeks. I cant see why they think that would be the best option for you in this situation surely it would be best to keep you in and arrange your induction for 40 weeks?

rainbowgrimm · 15/10/2018 13:31

Is this your nearest hospital? If not could they arrange monitoring at a nearer location with any concerns passed on to the team your under?

Singlebutmarried · 15/10/2018 13:32

Is there a local midwife unit or similar that may have a CTG machine more locally?

Surely something must exist?

Have a chat with the nurses/midwives on thenward. They may have some advice.
