To take him to McDonalds?

He’s two; we occasionally go to McDonalds for lunch after braving soft play. AIBU for taking him - is it totally shit?! He eats really well otherwise Blush

No. Just go. Once in a while treat is not going to hurt.

Grumpbum123 · 15/10/2018 12:31

Much bigger things in life to worry about! Go and enjoy

ADastardlyThing · 15/10/2018 12:31

No it's not shit at all.

Enjoy!

InMemoryOfSleep · 15/10/2018 12:31

@LokiBear I feel like this is my comeuppance for being one of those ‘I would never take my child to McDonalds’ before I had DS!

Nothing wrong with it once in a while - enjoy! I used to love it when my dad relented and bought me fries from there to eat on the way home!

KindergartenKop · 15/10/2018 12:32

It's fine. It's no shitter than a pub kids meal or chicken nuggets out of your freezer.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 15/10/2018 12:33

It’s fine- I get the fish fingers, chips with no salt and a milk for my 14 month old occasionally.:hardly going to kill em!

Haworthia · 15/10/2018 12:35

Seriously, do you really need Mumsnet’s permission to set foot in a McDonald’s? I can’t bear snobbery like that. And a Big Mac is one of life’s great joys after all.

ribblerobble · 15/10/2018 12:36

Frankly, mine has nuggets or fish fingers with a carrot bag and some (of our salt free) chips with milk to drink. With a toy, colouring and table service I actually think it's a pretty good experience (just shame I dislike the food; Dad loves a Big Mac).

Morgan12 · 15/10/2018 12:36

What's actually wrong with McDonald's? If I take my DS to lunch at a restaurant he will get chicken nuggets and chips. So how is it worse if he gets them at McDonald's?

AlexanderHamilton · 15/10/2018 12:37

Just ask for the fries without salt.

InMemoryOfSleep · 15/10/2018 13:06

@Haworthia it was more that I was worried I was being naive thinking it’s ok - was half expecting someone to tell me how terrible it is! So not being snobby at all - although I’m not sure worrying about your child eating well classes as snobbery?!

Just try not to present it as a treat, else DS will forever think of it as a treat - it's not, it's a cheap high calorie labour-saving convenience. Go to other places as well.

LiquoricePickle · 16/10/2018 03:50

My son likes the filet o fish, no cheese, no sauce and corn.

emss55 · 16/10/2018 03:56

No YANBU go and enjoy. They do healthy meals too and as you say he eats well the rest of the time.

Monty27 · 16/10/2018 04:07

It's ok as a quick fix the odd time. But not a treat and not regularly.
It's not a sin if you keep it there.
i always went for a fillet of fish while they had happy meals

joiningmum · 16/10/2018 04:21

Is part of the poor reputation perhaps also down to the food being poorer quality in the US (where it started)?

I don't think it's much different than the convenience food we get in M&S café or the meals from our local leisure centre, or than the food in most soft plays themselves. So if you like the service and the environment then I don't see it as a worse option.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 16/10/2018 04:39

McDonald’s often has a little soft play; WiFi, toys. Buy him a happy meal; he can have tomatoes and fruit. Take the crumb off the nuggets if you are really bothered.

Wherearemycarkeys · 16/10/2018 09:56

I'm SO surprised by the responses! I thought people would be really opposed to it! (I'm not saying I disagree with them, I like the occasional Big Mac myself. But the way you hear people harping on about McDonald's on social media etc you'd think everyone was against it!)

WorraLiberty · 16/10/2018 10:02

A 2 year old kid who 'eats really well otherwise', having an occasional McDonalds Wherearemycarkeys?

Yes, you'll get a couple of oddballs kicking off about it on threads like this as a rule, but I always imagine their child is sat on the sofa being babysat by a large bag of Haribos.
