Hospital wants to send me home after PPROM. I don’t want to go. Help.

CatsEye99 · 15/10/2018 12:20

Posting for traffic. My waters broke at home and were bright red, and I was 26 weeks with DCDA twins. I called an ambulance and was rushed to hospital where I had a huge gush of red fluid. I was counselled about preterm birth and given steroid injections. I saw a neonatal doctor who stated the most important thing was to deliver at a hospital with NICU cots.

Despite severe agonising pain, a week has passed and I haven’t given birth. Twins aren’t distressed and my observations are fine.

However I feel incredibly unwell. I keep burning hot and turning red but my temp is not raised. I feel like I have the flu or another illness. I have no energy and can barely move due to pain. Codeine won’t touch it. A midwife told me to have a hot bath which I am sure is contraindicated.

The staff want to send me home. I have stated I do not want to go home due to me living an hour from the hospital and the risk of infection, cord compression, preterm delivery and stillbirth. I do not want to lose my babies. I want to remain in the unit with NICU like the doctor advised.

Can anyone give me any advice? I can’t find any info on this anywhere and feel like the staff are fobbing me off.

Finally some answers for you I'm pleased you have been updated and a plan is in place so sorry it's come to this however - wishing you and your babies lots of luck

Caprisunorange · 17/10/2018 16:00

Oh op what brilliants news

Sexnotgender · 17/10/2018 16:01

Glad you’ve finally had an answer. You must be so relieved.

Hopefully another couple of weeks growth for your babies will make a huge difference. Are you getting steroids to help their lungs?

Will you be in hospital until the birth?

frogsoup · 17/10/2018 16:01

That's great news that you finally have answers. Just goes to show that your instincts were correct. The 'the doctors do know best, you are probably just stressed and anxious' replies upthread come from the same dangerous mindset as doctors and hcps who minimise and dismiss what patients (particularly women) are telling them. It pays to trust your instincts.

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 17/10/2018 16:11

I’m glad you have an answer. I can sense the relief from your post.

So glad they are keeping you in and keeping an eye on you all. Sending lots of unmumsnetty hugs and best wishes Flowers

CatsEye99 · 17/10/2018 16:15

I've had a course of steroids. Plan is to remain in hospital until birth I think!

Don’t go home! I was told to go home with my first DC but something was wrong, I just knew it! So quite unlike my normal self I told them I was not leaving. Thank goodness. It saved both of us. Rant if you need to (quite normal for midwives to hear ranting) but stay exactly where you are! Good luck and love to you! xx

Froglette16 · 17/10/2018 16:21

X post. Pleased you are getting the help you need xx

woolduvet · 17/10/2018 16:21

Do you know what the indications of whether this is happening?
Only ask as you seem to be having to be your own advocate and will need to know what to look out for.

MaverickSnoopy · 17/10/2018 16:57

I'm so pleased that you've finally had a sensible response!! Waiting in these circumstances must be torturous. You are admirable and are a wonderful mother mother to your babies.

HashTagLil · 17/10/2018 17:07

Thank goodness things are finally moving forward with your care OP. When this is over, please think about officially complaining about your appalling care. I say this as a HCP.

QOD · 17/10/2018 17:09

Sorry your care has been so shite

isitthehormones · 17/10/2018 17:25

I’ve been watching your thread but had nothing of any value to add but I just wanted to say well done on being persistent for your sake and your babies. We know our own bodies better than anyone else. I’m so glad you’ve got some answers, hopefully you’ll be able to relax a little knowing they know what’s going on and you now have a plan in place (finally!).

RememberWhenRibenaTastedNice · 17/10/2018 17:28

Hang in there babies. Hopefully they can stay in until 30 weeks.

Maldives2006 · 17/10/2018 17:41

That great that you finally have a plan in place, I had a feeling your babies would be coming relatively soon. Now you can try and relax and prepare for the delivery and neonatal period.

Good luck with everything and rest well!!

Topseyt · 17/10/2018 17:52

I am glad to hear that you have finally had a sensible assessment from the consultant and a proper plan seems to now be in place.

Now to see that they stick to it and implement all aspects of it, including the scans and the monitoring. Kick up a stink if they start to backslide again.

LoniceraJaponica · 17/10/2018 18:02

I had nothing to say, but have been watching this thread with horror. I am so pleased that you have been seen by someone competent, and wish you all the best for a safe delivery when the time comes Flowers

Rainbowturkey · 17/10/2018 18:21

Pleased to see a plan has been made and you’ve been told what’s happening. Good luck

CatsEye99 · 17/10/2018 18:22

Thank you. I still haven't had my scan - the consultant went to enquire but the scan department refused. I'm not quite sure how they can refuse a consultant.

I've had more monitoring now and feel better that we have a plan. Been told to get someone immediately if I have bleeding or pain so am waiting for a doctor as I'm still bleeding now. Babies are not distressed.

I appreciate the kind messages Flowers

How many weeks are you now? Please come and join us on the Parents of Preemies Support UK group. Lots of twin and preemie mums and the depth of knowledge is unbelievable.

Chrisinthemorning · 17/10/2018 19:02

Glad some progress has been made. Stay strong, you can do this.

CatsEye99 · 17/10/2018 19:55

27 weeks. Will be 27 and 2 tomorrow which is reassuring to write. Thank you is that group on Facebook?

OP posts:
2isabella2 · 17/10/2018 20:29

I'm glad you have a plan in place now, hopefully they'll stay in a few more weeks. I don't understand the lack of scan at all, I had two emergency scans for much less.

MsMotherOfDragons · 17/10/2018 21:27

Really pleased that you have more clarity now.

I had wondered from your past posts about your symptoms about whether a small bit of a placenta had come away, causing the bleed and the pain, but didn't want to mention as I'm not medical and didn't want to pitch in without knowing what I was talking about! That certainly would explain a lot though. Good that they are clear on how to manage it and what the danger signs are. Make sure they keep checking you for signs of infection! (Perhaps keep your own record of temperatures so you can see the trend?)

Every bit longer you can hold on is good for the babies! Thank goodness you are in hospital and can be monitored and treated quickly if anything does start.

Yes we are on FB. The admin people might ask you a couple of questions.
