To wonder why people do this?

Im sat in a chinese restaurant. When I come here I purposely sit by the window as its two tables on there own then the rest of the restuarant tables are further up. It is very empty. A couple have come in and sat right at the table next to me and my 3 kids and one of them keeps making a “shhhh” noise! Why do people do this?! Sit next to kids then complain. Aibu to think they should have sat away from us if they didnt want to hear children. They are by no means shouting but there are chatting like kids do.

Shh them back.

Insomnibrat · 14/10/2018 18:02

I dunno. Are you having a mixed starter? Is there that crispy seaweed stuff?
I love that.

SneakyGremlins · 14/10/2018 18:02

Is the rest of the place empty?

They're weirdos if so.

Start shushing them.

MarthasGinYard · 14/10/2018 18:03

Bare teeth and growl at them

GreenLantern53 · 14/10/2018 18:03

Its actually empty now apart from 1 person. Its definitely at us as its every time they talk.

Maybe they like to look out of the window? The shushing is unreasonable unless your children are screaming or something.

FinallyATea · 14/10/2018 18:04

Yes they r a bit weird, but it's even odder to be using mumsnet when out for a family meal (isn't it?) Hmm

Yonijust · 14/10/2018 18:05

Maybe one of the couple is swearing, so the other one is saying shhhh?

If its directed at you, ask them.why they chose to sit next to children and dont forget this look Hmm

GreenLantern53 · 14/10/2018 18:05

waiting for my food! only one is facing the window

If it was 8pm and your kids were being quite loud I'd say that you were in the wrong, but it's only 6pm and that's exactly the right time for people to eat out with families IMO. Anyone that wants an adult only restaurant shouldn't eat out so early!

It only happened to me once - at 6.30 in a hotel restaurant, my twins were about 3 and making very little noise as it happens, but being 3 year olds nonetheless, squirming and wriggling around, going under the table, dropping a book etc. A man kept giving us filthy looks. Usually I'd be absolutely mortified but it was 6.30 and we were staying in the bloody hotel! We purposely went down to eat early so as to avoid the quiet, more 'coupley' time! So I just ignored the prick.

If they do it again, I'd ask them when exactly families are supposed to eat out?
