Parking in our road is crap. It’s got worse over the years we’ve lived here.
We own a long wheel base van (with 9 seats as we have a few kids) and last year bought a small car. We’ve lived here 17 years and finally this year I had enough and we’ve paid for the curb to be dropped in front of our house so we can park the car on the front. It’s hard standing, not grass and we had the curb done properly by the council.

One of the reasons we did it, was because I was getting fed up with coming home with the van and not finding anywhere to park it. We need a space 7 curb stones long, so it’s not like I can just squeeze it in anywhere.

Got home from a day out today and some git has parked overhanging the drop. There’s nowhere else to park in our road, so the default would be in front of our dropped curb.
I don’t recognise the car to know where to knock for the owner. So I’ve parked up close to it, but I’m blocking next doors drive.
Dh wants me to move the van. I don’t want to as I feel we need to protect the curb as it’s only been in place for a few weeks. Anyway, why should I?
I feel bad about next door, but he doesn’t drive. His mum does and comes round regularly and parks there. BUT they know it’s our van and where to find us.

We need a diagram.
But also maybe nip next door to explain the situation and ask if it's okay to leave the van like that for the time being. If not then you will park it elsewhere (even if that's a few streets away).
Maybe also leave a NICE note on the car windscreen, saying they might not have noticed the new drop curb but you can't get on your drive and please would they not park there in future. I see no need to get hostile from the get-go when the lowered curb is so new.

SoupDragon · 14/10/2018 17:56

Not only is it parked over the dropped kerb, it's parked badly!

Knock on your neighbour's door to let him know you'll move your van forward when knobber leaves.

Iamclearlyamug · 14/10/2018 17:57

the grey car has parked like a total bellend to be fair. not sure where your DH thinks you should park the van if there's no other space - I'd definitely be leaving a snotty note on the car though

neddle · 14/10/2018 17:58

Grrrrr!
He’s come and moved the car. Guess I didn’t park close enough.

Dh was stood outside having a fag and nobber said nothing to him.
Dh doesn’t like confrontation so said nothing either.

That car is parked so badly miles from the kerb as well! Clearly a shit driver and cheeky fucker . Doesn't matter if next door doesn't drive and knows it's your van don't be a cheeky fucker! Go and knock and explain why you're parked there, ask if it's ok apologise! otherwise you're just as bad as the person blocking your drive. Leave a note on the car.

Dollymixture22 · 14/10/2018 17:59

This person is an arse. Leave a note.

Can you get those no parking white lines painted on the road? You shouldn’t have to, people should know not to park over driveways. But clearly there are idiots out there!

MyCatIsBonkers · 14/10/2018 17:59

I'd knock on every door up and down the street until I found the owner.

MrTrebus · 14/10/2018 17:59

Nevermind! Already sorted. Probably dropping off a takeaway or something.

neddle · 14/10/2018 18:00

Dh thinks he was an engineer.
