To ask for ‘body’ book recommendations

For an 8yo with an asd diagnosis. I think this is significant as it needs to be very clear and factual, not ‘flowery’.

I’m not sure what other details I need to give, so please ask.

I want to help educate her further and enhance her learning in a her class’s current topic about bodies.

She has basic knowledge about the female body, periods and pregnancy, but doesn’t really know anything about boys bodies. She also knows nothing yet about how a woman becomes pregnant. She knows something happens, and that it is a choice, but I’ve told her I’ll explain more about it when she’s a bit older.

I feel like I may fallen behind on this a bit - Help!

(Posting for traffic on AIBU, so I’ll just ignore any of the very predictable snippy comments between the good advice I’ll hopefully get.)

Could you try YouTube too? My son has ASD and watches Kids Learning Tube which has lots of fun and factual videos.

There are lots of channels which I think would help.

Thanks mum and merry.

@Merryoldgoat could you tell me the name of some of those channels that sounds right up her street!

Kids Learning Tube is the main one - songs about planets, periodic table, US State Capitals, organs of the body etc. He’s an information junkie so that’s a good one.

Davehax is good for science experiments but you need to supervise viewing. The tutorial to fool people with a dismembered finger is quite something...

Blippi is a Canadian channel - a guy sings various educational stuff.

I’ll go see some of the others and report back. It’s an absolute minefield and it’s great as one minute he’s watching Mr Men, and the next he’s learning about how the kidneys work.

My DS likes Dr McWheelie too, who is an animated female mechanic who explains how cars and engines work. He’s 5 and can tell you the constituent parts of an engine.

Goldmine - not minefield!

Very late night with baby Confused
