AIBU to hate craft

This is a lighthearted thread for a Saturday afternoon ... but does anyone else hate craft ? I can't bear making things.. used to dread it when my kids were small .. all that gluing and stitching and making shit pictures out of buttons and feathers and stuff !! My idea of hell is being trapped inside "Kirsties Homemade Christmas" weaving gifts Smile

Ha, give me craft anyway over imaginary play (schools, doctors, mum and dads) and small world play (dolls, little characters and models).

I'm definitely a craft, jigsaw, books, games type of Mum!

Do you really enjoy the other stuff I hate? If so can you teach me how to please!

HRTpatch · 13/10/2018 19:25

Loathed it. Once they went to nursery at 3, I never did it again.
Fucking glitter.

ShimmeringIce · 13/10/2018 19:26

Ditto Rachie can’t bear pretend, I’m whisper-swearing after about 10 seconds. Would rather hoover glitter all day long!

New adoptive mum of two, and I have discovered I'm a little OCD. So far I have managed to keep craft stuff to the dining table (with a plastic cover obviously). If I'm feeling particularly twitchy (and it's not too cold), I wrap them up warm and set the easel up in the garden!! They can splash paint around to their hearts content out there!!

I bloody Love it - saved my sanity once when I was in a bad way and have realised I needed a creativity outlet. I make and give stuff but only if I personally would have it in my house or if people ask me for it. Knitting I stick to small stuff, people don't realise the time and energy involved. But if you don't like it so be it - we can still be friends :-)

RB68 · 13/10/2018 19:28

oh saved me when DD was little one of those aqua painting mats - they get a paintbrush that has a water barrel and paint on the mat, gets anywhere else and its only water

My eldest is craft obsessed, her room is full of projects she's working on. Sometimes I just can't look. I'm not particularly creative but the childminder really encouraged it when she was small and it's now out of control. I'm anything for the quiet life and don't mind getting the craft stuff out if it keeps them happy for a while. But I hate the clearing up. While they're young it's definitely about the process rather than the end product.

I like craft..... craft with children not so much Wink

@KC225 That sounds bloody fab! I've spent a good few hours today cutting out giant witchy silhouettes for our windows Grin

I love crafts. I get frustrated doing crafts with the kids though (because they don't do it right and I'm a control freak) but since they are my grandkids and not my own I don't have to do it all the time and can prepare myself to be patient and calm and nice. Not my natural state 😁

Rachie1986 Shimmeringice .... My kids are all grown up now but I could spend hours making up stories or pretending to be tigers !! It's good that we are all different , I'm liking this thread as I've seen so many goady angry ones lately It seems that the crafters and the non crafters can be harmonious !!

@Grumpbum123I'm also in a psych hospital at the moment but we only do Art twice a week. They told me to try it because I need outlets to relax apparently. I spent about 30 mins on day 1 colouring and then left.

I'm a scout leader so hoping to make some interesting woggles from clay next time. The leader said I can do whatever I want so that could be fun. Otherwise I'll leave again and come back to my 3D jigsaw.
