Currently on a packed 2 hour train back from Manchester airport. DP and I have a large suitcase and there was 0 room to put it as everywhere is full and apparently there’s a train strike on so reservations are gone!
A lovely chap offered us the priority seats so could fit our luggage in with us (I’m currently sat cross legged jammed in)
DP feels awkward and as though we are being glared at (we are a bit) sitting in priority in a rammed train but I’ve told him not to be ridiculous - there are no elderly, pregnant or disabled around us and we would happily give up if asked (obvs not all disability’s are visible- my brother falls in this category and they know to ask as people can’t tell by looking).
My reasoning is if we move someone else will immediately sit here - it won’t stay available for those in need (also there’s actually no room to stand unless we swap with others already standing) 🤔
I get that in an ideal world nobody would sit in them unless needed but isn’t it really the train companies fault?
It seems TOTALLY irresponsible to me that the train companies are allowed to sell crazy expensive return airport tickets and make absolutely no provision for people or their luggage. It’s like ordering a taxi for 7 people (paying £70 for the priveledge) and them sending you a KA and shrugging their shoulders then pointing to the front seat and saying ‘you also can’t sit there unless you need it’ 🙄🤔😒
