To think these trainers are overpriced

17 year old ds has just paid £175 for these Nike vapourmax.

However they look like they won't last with their meshy fabric they will surely not stand up to rain or mud but I can't seem to stop him wasting money on this shite.

They’re not a waste of money if his goal is simply to have and show off extremely expensive trainers.

Teens will be teens. As long as it’s his money he’s spending, then knock himself out.

He’s got the rest of his life to wear Karrimor walking shoes.

Worzilgummidge · 13/10/2018 12:18

But £175 jesus

DD1 is the same. Teenagers generally spend money on things we see as ridiculous and adults spend money on things teens see as ridiculous. Thus it was and ever shall be.

Aprilislonggone · 13/10/2018 12:20

My dd 11 is after a pair!! No way!!
Would consider for ds 14 who hopefully at size 12 has stopped growing!!

Worzilgummidge · 13/10/2018 12:21

I would be worried about damaging them at that price

OP posts:
Worzilgummidge · 13/10/2018 12:22

I would be scared to wear the things

I feel your pain, my DS has these "beauties".

To think these trainers are overpriced
keepingbees · 13/10/2018 12:23

Yes they're overpriced in my opinion. I'd want shoes that price to last for years. My DS always wants expensive trainers, not in that league but still pricey. They are usually the lightweight mesh types with lightweight soles and they don't last 5 minutes.

SandyY2K · 13/10/2018 12:24

That's teenagers for you. DD spent £125 on a pair of trainers and said they were a good price.

I told her if she could then afford £50 for her school shoes which she wanted me to pay for.

Worzilgummidge · 13/10/2018 12:24

Him and his dad have a amusing discussions because dad buys cheap stuff and claims he isn't the one that's gonna get wrestled to the floor and have his shoes taken from his feet. Grin

You can get an excellent protector in JD Sports for trainers in that style/material, it adds an additional layer of protection, making them easy to clean and gives some waterproof protection. My son has often had similar trainers and they surprisingly last really well. They are well made. It’s just teenagers, as they get older they will get it! As long as he recognises their value and takes care of them, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Worzilgummidge · 13/10/2018 12:26

Hell monkey

They get mixed reviews.

What surfaces does he run on? People seem to talk more favourably about then for road (even than unmade path, let alone trail). Popular in Canada (good performance on snow/ice)

Top end performance trainers are breaking the £200 mark these days! Not what I go in for, but I can see why more competitive runners do.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 13/10/2018 12:27

Dis you actually buy those trainers for your son MojitoMonkey??

That's ludicrous for a pair of trainers.

Worzilgummidge · 13/10/2018 12:28

Oh okay maybe I will look for that protector

afromom · 13/10/2018 12:29

Trainers are my DS(14) obsession. He has several pairs of expensive ones. He also has a couple of pairs of 'cheaper' ones he wears for everyday. He is very careful where and when he wears the expensive ones, so they do last. He has them for birthday/Christmas presents , with not much else and is more than happy with that.
I would spend the same on a bag, so I can't really complain! His Dad (exh) has similarly expensive taste in shoes, and encourages him, so I can't win really!

Worzilgummidge · 13/10/2018 12:29

Basically I think he just wants to show off in them for casual everyday wear

OP posts:
NameChanger22 · 13/10/2018 12:29

That is ridiculous. I would never pay more than £20 on a pair. They don't even look nice.

Worzilgummidge · 13/10/2018 12:30

He hasn't long spent £145 on some others

OP posts:
MojitoMonkey · 13/10/2018 12:30

He buys his own trainers. I don't think I've ever spent more than £100 on my own shoes in my life.

Worzilgummidge · 13/10/2018 12:31

I feel hard done by to spend more than £20 on footwear

OP posts:
Worzilgummidge · 13/10/2018 12:32

Muggins bought his college outfit

megletthesecond · 13/10/2018 12:32

I don't like the current fashion for black, navy and white trainers. Fluoro will be back in a year I hope.
£175 is a lot for them. But it's his money.

Worzilgummidge · 13/10/2018 12:33

And he wears a pair of smart shoes at work that are not comfortable but he hasn't changed those.

OP posts:
silkpyjamasallday · 13/10/2018 12:36

DP has vapourmax, he got them as soon as they came out, the bubbles in the soles are extremely fragile, he burst them running around with then 15 month old DD within a couple of months of buying them. Such a waste of money I agree, especially as they are made in sweat shops the profit margins are ridiculous. I do like trainers, and I have a lot of pairs but I tend to buy the children's ones as I have smallish feet and they are so much cheaper.
