How long should a washing machine last with daily use?

Bit of a random post. So our Beko washing machine is nearly 7 years old and I believe it could be on the way out.

My OH insists 7 years old isn’t that old for a washing machine and should of lasted years longer than this. I think 7 years is a pretty good life span for a washing machine used daily. We have two messy DC so it’s used daily and it was used about 50 times last week as D.C. caught the dreaded bug.

7 years, good life span or not?

I’m secretly hoping it will go wrong as I want one with a bigger capacity to save me time 😂

I recently got rid of a 10 year old Bosch washing machine.m that broke down. It might have been repairable but from researching it looked like it would be a major job so wouldn’t be economical

Beko is a budget brand and built to match, it's done remarkably well to last seven years on daily washes.

We had a cheap Whirlpool last twelve years, current mid-price Indesit is on five years and counting - but we only run two or three washes a week so you're doing 2-3 times as many as us!

I think 7 years is very good for a budget brand like Beko.

The worst one I had was a Hotpoint that lasted about 3 years. I now have a basic Siemens, ex-display model bought in desperation after the Hotpoint packed up three days before Christmas, and it's still going strong almost 15 years later. All we've had to do is replace the brushes twice. It's a real workhorse.

Definitely clean out the little drain thingy on the front of it - this being full of crap stopped ours from spinning and draining properly.

My Miele is 14 years old and not showing any sign of olds age.

Thank you all. I’ve checked the little filter it was actually pretty clean. Oh was hoping that would be the issue and have also checked the pipes etc.

I do tend to use the washing machine cleaners once a month too. Or sometimes just use vinegar and soda crystals.

As much as we cannot afford another machine, I’m secretly hoping it will break, I really want a better machine with a bigger capacity..

We had our first Bosch for 8 years and have had the current Bosch for 5 and a half and I expect it to last a couple more at least and we live in a very hard water area.

Ours lasted 13 years but my sil has one that is over 20 years.

I have gone through 4 washing machines in 9 years. This horrifies and angers me. My mum's washing machine lasted over 20 years when I was a child in the 70s/80s. (I use mine on average once per day - and when the last 3 machines have gone wrong, it's always been the computerised bits that have failed).

I have found that it helps to google - last week I thought my fifth (ffs!) machine had broken, but actually a sock had got stuck in the drainage channel. Twenty minutes and a lot of contorted manoeuvring and cursing later, all was fine....

also - if you use colour catchers, always always put them in a lingerie bag in your machine. They are made from cellulose which means they can start to break down and get stuck in the drainage channels or filters, causing you to think that your washing machine has had it when actually you just need to get the blasted piece of fabric out ...

I've gone through three Dysons in fourteen years too - never lose suction my arse. Now using a Henry which is wonderful.

Our Hoover has just had its brushes changed at 5 years old, it does get a lot of use though.
Its predecessor the Hotpoint did 8 years before giving up. It did in its later years wander across the kitchen floor and try to hump the dishwasher next to it.
Mum has a Bosch that is 20 years old though. But she washes far less than we do.
