A child always having urination issues.. Only drinks water.

Has anyone experienced this with their dc.
My NDN child is constantly having urine issues. Whether infection or ' traces of blood in urine.'
The child is only 'allowed' to drink water. This is the mother's choice as everything else bad for the child's teeth ( greets her with sweets every day at school but that's a diff story)
I have noticed the child doesn't drink much and have to continually prompt to drink when I look after the dc.
Not sure if it's laziness on the dc part or it's boring to solely drink water.
But either way id like some practical advise.

Nothing wrong with just water and I've never heard of not drinking enough causing infection. One thing that does cause UTIs is wiping from back to front as it spreads bacteria so make sure she's wiped front to back.

Are her UTIs always properly treated?

Also, if she's used to just drinking water (as I am) I very much doubt she's "bored" of it as she doesn't know any differently.

Yeah that's what I was kind of thinking. She also has a mainly pasta diet. Fussy child. Does eat some veg but pasta everyday as a main meal. Could that be a reason.
As for wiping I'm not sure as I haven't seen. But when I see her I will ask how she wipes.

Wait, this is your next door neighbour's child? Have they asked you to seek advice about their child's urinary issues?

LucyAutumn · 12/10/2018 21:16

I thought drinking more meant you're able to urinate more frequently thus flushing out bacteria from your system?

LightDrizzle · 12/10/2018 21:22

Just drinking water is pretty standard for children these days. Sugary drinks, caffeinated drinks and alcohol all bring negatives.
Only drinking water will not be contributing to the UTIs.
Recurring UTIs do merit further investigation however. Hopefully this is happening.
You are either an extraordinarily involved NDN or a disapproving grandparent in disguise.

nocoolnamesleft · 12/10/2018 21:43

Not drinking enough causes concentrated urine. Concentrated urine irritates the bladder. An irritated bladder is more likely to become infected. Stale urine irritates the bladder. Concentrated/stale urine irritates the urethra, making it easier for infection to enter the bladder. Not drinking enough makes constipation more likely. Constipation makes it harder to fully empty the bladder, creating stale urine. Constipation leads to more bugs floating around the perineum, making UTI more likely.

Single most common factor in primary school age children with bladder irritation symptoms is not drinking enough. Water is the best fluid, but only if they bloody drink it.

ileclerc · 12/10/2018 22:18

Who's NDN your next door neighbour? That's odd. There nothing wrong with only water.

SchoolPanicTime · 12/10/2018 22:25

I think it just needs to be investigated further. Drinking only water is fine and won't cause a UTI - many humans do it the world over.

SeaEagleFeather · 12/10/2018 22:37

water is good but they have to actually drink it!

If she's getting UTIs she must be in real pain.

Better a bit of squash and drinking than not drinking enough, imo.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 12/10/2018 22:39

My practical advice for addressing your neighbour’s health issues is to mind your own business. HTH.

Strokethefurrywall · 12/10/2018 22:44

Hmmmm.

I'm pretty sure he only advice to give is....

(Clear throat and gets megaphone)

MIND YOUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS!

feelsicksicksick · 13/10/2018 01:24

My child only drinks water or soya milk. She can have juice at party's, it's not lazy I just don't want her to have minging teeth but then again she doesn't have sweets either

Purpleartichoke · 13/10/2018 01:30

Not drinking enough is absolutely linked to UTIs

If she is having persistent issues than the infection needs to be properly cultured. It may require specialized treatment.

My Dd really only drinks water too. She drinks plenty of it though.

TawnyTeal · 13/10/2018 03:13

Has the mother asked for your advice?

Angelf1sh · 13/10/2018 03:48

I strongly advise that you don’t ask your next door neighbour’s young daughter how she wipes her arse Hmm

paxillin · 13/10/2018 09:21

Your interest in a neighbour's small daughter's peeing and bum wiping is worrying.

Rachel0Greep · 13/10/2018 14:13

@Paxillin +1.

OP, nothing whatsoever to do with you.
