AIBU to just remove the damn brace?

Feeling awful. DD14 had a brace fitted yesterday and hates it. She has a removable top brace and says she can't talk properly and can't eat. She has a fixed bottom brace and now has an ulcer from it rubbing. The treatment is on the NHS and so needed. I am trying to talk sense into her and telling her to give it a few days, see how it goes, loads of people have them, etc. But she is such a drama queen that the whole family is stressed. Feel like marching back to the orthodontist and asking for them to be removed (although won't obviously). Dreading the dramas over the weekend. Please can you share your brace experiences so we can get through this...

I did hate my brace at the time, and I was the first in my class to get them. So I felt so self conscious
Got horrible ulcers from them, but so worth it in the end!

I think the before and after pictures like @Bloomingfreezing suggest would be a great idea

The discomfort does go away quite quickly tbh

OP.... with the before and after pics thing and going on about "lovely straight teeth" etc..... just be careful not to suggest you think she is ugly, needs improving or anything.

I presume if she is getting this on the NHS there is a medical need, not just cosmetic? Better to focus on that maybe, as an impersonal medical procedure like getting your jabs....

Idk, it all just feels a bit "your face isn't right so we're going to put you through something painful to fix it". I know that isn't what's going on but teen girls can be so so sensitive about their appearance so maybe just be careful.

Okay so top removable brace- I couldn't talk or eat with it either, but only had to wear mine for twelve hours a day so wore from 7-7 as didn't care about not being able to speak to my boring parents lol- obv no offence to you. Re the bottom fixed brace it's easy enough to find pics of wonky toothed ppl on google images. Would be inclined to share these with her and tell her it's fine if she wants them removed now, but if she ends up with horrible wonky teeth in adulthood you won't be paying to fix them and it's even more Unxool to have adult braces! I think she'll come around to your way of thinking xx
