Angry!!!!

Was IBU? It's really bothering me.

Yesterday after work I dropped my friend off at the shop near her house, as she wanted to pop in before going home. She lives just opposite the shop so after she got out the car I was going to drive to pick up my daughter from nursery.

She got out the car. This shop has a very small car park - one which has 4 spaces outside the shop,, and to get the the spaces you drive up a small drive on the left. You then drive out a small drive on the right to get out of the carpark and back onto the road.

The car infront of me stopped (it didn't bother to park in one of the spaces despite there being two free, just stopped in the drive which is meant to be for exiting) and the driver got out the car leaving his car door wide open so I was stuck behind his car because I couldn't get out with the door wide open. There was another car behind me which had just pulled out of a parking space and was waiting at an awkward angle to leave the car park after me. We were both stuck there because this idiot had stopped on the drive with his door wide open. I sat there for about 10 minutes wondering where the Hell he was (it's a tiny shop and my friend had walked out and left after about 3 minutes so I have no idea what was taking him so long!) I was not only getting the stage where I'd be late to pick up my daughter, but also a bit of a pile up was caused - there was the car behind me which was stuck at an awkward angle pulling out of a space, the person from the other car was sat in their car still in the space wanting to leave, and there was another car waiting to come into the carpark who couldn't even get in.

Idiot-who-left-the-door-open's (I assume) partner was in the passenger seat just playing on her phone, ignoring the commotion, until eventually we made eye contact. I looked at her with a bit of a Hmm expression and she yelled at me "WHAT?!! Just fing wait!!! He's just gone in the shop!!!" I replied "I'm in a bit of a rush..." She yelled back "I'm not getting out to shut his door!!! I'm fing 7 months pregnant!!!!!" And then started effing and blinding about how I should "just wait until he gets back and hears you've been stressing out a pregnant girl!!!" (I'd said nothing except "I'm in a bit of a rush."

The car behind me started beeping and I thought, sod this. I'm late for pick up, the cars behind me are getting angry too, and most of all she's basically just told me that she's going to tell this man to have a go at me when he gets back. I suffer from anxiety and was getting quite upset and worried and shaken between a combination of being late, being threatened, and being beeped at. I thought, I'm going to have to try and move. So I got out of my car and gently pushed the open door of his car closed. I closed it so gently that it didn't slam, didn't even close properly, but now I could just about inch past.

I started to inch past, very slowly and carefully, and this girl starts screaming abuse at me. I mean properly screaming, saying I should just fing wait and how dare I touch her property and that I'm going to scratch her car and that she's going to break my fing legs. I was quite shaken but continued to drive carefully and left the carpark without touching her car. As I was leaving, the car behind me was doing the same which she shouted and swore at him and threatened to break his legs too.

My question is - was I unreasonable not to wait? I KNOW he was unreasonable for leaving his door wide open knowing it would clearly block the entire drive, and she was unreasonable for getting instantly aggressive and threatening. But I just want to know what you would have all done?

YWNBU and I’m sure you know it.
That woman sounds totally unhinged

Dazedandconfused1988 · 12/10/2018 04:25

Also as for what I would’ve done, not waited ten minutes you’ve the patience of a saint.

Who the fuck not only parks in an entrance/exit but leaves their door open? And refuses to shut it?

AjasLipstick · 12/10/2018 04:26

I'd have slammed it shut so hard it fell off! You did the right thing though.

Well done. What a nutter!

tsonlyme · 12/10/2018 04:28

Whilst she as being an utter shart goblin and I would’ve have closed the door too, can you imagine spending your entire life being such a ball of entitled rage? Must be horrible. Pity her

flumpybear · 12/10/2018 04:42

Oh what a lovely mummy she'll be!

I'd have got out and slammed their door shut too, probably said some choice words in the process, bloody entitled fuck wits

Aprilsinparis · 12/10/2018 05:51

YWNU What a nasty piece of crap. You were very patient, I don't think I would have been. Imagine what sort of mother she's going to make.Hmm

hiddeneverything · 12/10/2018 06:02

Some people are just scum bags. She is one of them.

YeTalkShiteHen · 12/10/2018 06:04

OP you were a lot calmer and more civil than I’d have been if I was made late to pick up one of mine!

Pissedoffdotcom · 12/10/2018 06:07

Another door slammer here too. Cheeky fuckers

PumpkinPie2016 · 12/10/2018 06:16

YWNBU - I think you are very patient and calm actually!

She on the other hand sounds unhinged!

I hope you're ok Smile

Oliversmumsarmy · 12/10/2018 06:20

that she's going to break my f*ing legs

I would have thought that remark would have been too priceless to overlook and replied along the lines of

"If you are 7months pregnant and that makes you unable to close a door I doubt you have the strength to break anyone's fucking legs. Do f*k off you entitled bitch

FWIW we have a particular family that did do this sort of thing in my local village.
I don't know if it is just they no longer do it if they see me anymore.

They drove to outsde the local shop and instead of finding a parking space just stopped the car and got out blocking everyone.

Single lane and parking spaces only
I had just come out of a parking space and was stuck behind them.

Realising they weren't coming back I went into the shop and shouted
"Would the owners of car (Reg No) please move it and find a proper space to park it otherwise I will move it with my vehicle"

I saw the womans smirk turn to panic when she saw what I was driving and never seen anyone run so quick to get out of the shop.

I actually think I got a round of applause.

They are known for their entitled behaviour around the village.

pictish · 12/10/2018 06:24

Ach she’s a confrontational twat and will have and enjoy crap like that going on in her life all the time. I’d have shut the bloody door firmly before coming down to her level and telling her her to fuck off. Self-entitled wankers like that, who’ll hold everybody else up without a care give me the rage.

lovetherisingsun · 12/10/2018 06:45

She'll be the type who screams at another mother when their kid even so much as looks at hers. What a delight.

ParentsOfSummer · 12/10/2018 06:46

You took action to prevent a crime (continual and wilful obstruction of the highway) and did so using minimum force. I think if someone has scratched his car he would be at fault for bad parking.

I would have taken a photo and sent it to the company who regulates the parking/council so they could issue a nice letter :-)

7 months pregnant and can't either close the door or ask driver to use a bay? Hahaha - she'll be in for a suprise when she gives birth :-D

Sweetpea55 · 12/10/2018 06:50

What a low life,,,she sounds delightful

RollyCow · 12/10/2018 06:57

Clearly you weren't unreasonable

dontticklethetoad · 12/10/2018 07:03

Urghhh. Like pp have said, I would not have been so calm.

PeasAreGreat · 12/10/2018 07:07

Of course YWNBU - she was an arsehole. I would have loved to have been there and slammed the door in her face! And I'm 8 months pregnant so take that you moany little cow Grin

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 12/10/2018 07:22

After the threat to break your legs I would have stopped, taken a photo of the reg plate and told the hideous woman that the police would be contacted.

TooTrueToBeGood · 12/10/2018 07:25

Look at it this way. You only had too suffer selfish fucker and unhinged fruitloop for ten minutes. They have to live with each other. The last laugh is all yours.

Yabbers · 12/10/2018 07:28

I’d have got out and closed the door. Seems a better option than screaming at each other in the street. I’d first have spoken to the driver long before they left.

It really is unbelievable how some people will behave in public.

Wherearemycarkeys · 12/10/2018 09:52

Haha thank you for all the comments! I'm so happy to hear them - wishing I'd been a bit tougher now! Door slamming, going into the shop, or taking a photo of the car/registration plate would all have been much more satisfying then what I actually did! Although at the time I was being a coward. It did cross my mind that at 7 months pregnant and apparently unable to walk two metres to shut a door she probably wouldn't be able to break my legs... But she seemed so unhinged I didn't want to wait around to find out! Grin Glad to hear it's pretty unanimous that I wasn't being unreasonable! If she hasn't played the pregnant card id not have even questioned it but as she did I was a bit worried (just a general worrier Blush)

OP posts:
Wherearemycarkeys · 12/10/2018 09:53

Also yeah - imagine being that angry and full of hatred! I'd not thought of it that way. I wonder if her partner would have been like her, or embarrassed by her? I'm quite curious (but again, definitely too cowardly to wait around and find out!)
