Have been out of work force for almost 6 years because of family commitments.
Finally, I have an interview for tomorrow for a little cafe/bakery.
I am so nervous. The email said, "Are you free for a chat? "Does this mean it's informal?
Do I need to bring a hard copy of the C.V?
What do I wear?
I am unsure of the hours of the job but I am limited to school hours I can commit to the occasional Saturday. Should I be upfront about that?
Any help greatly appreciated!!

Good luck. Just be yourself.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 11/10/2018 17:27

i would wear something like this (assuming its informal) as its smart/casual with heels:

dress with tights and some heels.

good luck! fingers crossed you get it op x

Go smart casual - I know, that's a horrible phrase. Jeans and a nice top and smart shoes. At the end of the day, this is a first impression so you want to look put together and presentable. Will also build your confidence wearing something a little smarter. Though it's "just a chat" they'll still be judging you so be prepared, google some key interview tips and read up :)

Good luck!

Yes, bring hard copy of CV.
Dress nicely.
Appear confident.
I think a ‘chat’ will be an informal interview and not a 3 person panel.
Good luck.

JustDanceAddict · 11/10/2018 17:29

Ps: don’t wear jeans!

MrsStrowman · 11/10/2018 17:30

@sleepismysuperpower1 I love Cath for an interview and for work generally. In my profession even at senior level, that kind of dress with a blazer and heels or flats is fine.

OP I think a dress, dark tights and shoes/boots are always a good shout, but honestly it's a cafe even if you wore jeans as long as you are smart and presentable ie no.muddy trainers and a nice top etc it'll be fine.

Singlenotsingle · 11/10/2018 17:32

Informal-ish, but smart casual wear. Smart skirt or trousers, maybe a blazer and courts. Take a CV just in case. Re the hours, just play it by ear!

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 11/10/2018 17:34

Yes, smart but casual. pay attention to general appearance eg make sure your nails are clean and trimmed (As presumably you're applying for a job working with food), be yourself, friendly and enthusiastic. I'd expect a one to one informal interview, not a panel. Have a think ahead about your answers to questions they might ask e.g. how you'd deal with a complaint, experience, flexibility etc

Well done on getting an interview.
As an emplyer but not in catering I look for,
Clean hair, modist makeup
Clean ironed clothes polished shoes
A smart jacket would be good.
Yes bring them a copy of your CV.
Be clear in your own mind what your past experience can bring to the job
Be clear on your available hours etc
Know what you are worth per hour. Min wage by law
Declare any pre booked holiday
SMILE, and make eye contact
Ask about any training available, ie. Food hygiene certs etc

Please don’t think I’m telling you the bleeding obvious, but I’ve had to interview people for office jobs who have failed all of the above
Good luck

If it’s feasible bring a hard copy of your CV and keep it neatly folded in your bag just in case it’s asked for.
Yes to smart casual. Jeans only if they’re black and not faded, or a dress, or a smartish skirt (nothing too short) and jumper with black tights and boots or flats like ballet pumps or brogues. Obviously look clean and tidy.
Be confident and try to relax, think of examples in advance where you’ve done similar tasks to what the role will entail- serving customers, working a till, handling money, food prep etc.
I’d be upfront about your availability too, no point in them offering you the job only to find it’s for shifts you can’t do.
GOOD LUCK!!

Taffeta · 11/10/2018 17:39

As long as you look clean (yy to pay attention to nails) and beat you’ll be fine

Wear something comfortable that you feel confident in

Be warm and friendly

Good luck!
