To expect a refund...

Stupidly ordered some personalised Christmas decorations through a Facebook page. Had nearly 3,000 likes including some people I know. I am pretty certain there reviews. There aren't now and the order was placed in July. There has been a saga of apologies ....'husband injured', 'whisked away for anniversary', 'daughter in hospital'. Then we had item posted will send proof of postage. Still nothing and - as I posted on the page I'm getting messages from other people saying they are waiting. So as not to drip feed - paid via PayPal but stupidly through friends and family so have reported but don't think they will be interested. Money via PayPal actually goes to sellers brother in law's company so have contacted them but know I've been daft in all this. Without knowing a registered address though is there anything else we can try? Mostly I want to stop them doing this to anyone else.

Post on their facebook wall as well as email/ message as many contacts as you have (the brother, the owner etc):
It has been X months since I placed and order and paid for your product. Because of this, I have asked Y times for a refund with no response. If I do not receive a full refund by Z date, I will need to report this to the consumer ombudsman for fraud/ failure to deliver products.

Remain factual, and be clear how you want this resolved.

Give bad feedback on fb.

They will prob send you a message saying to remove it and you can say I will when I get my item

Thank-you both. Am so cross about this - partly at myself too!

Contact your bank with regard to applying for a charge back, it’s a lengthy process but I had a similar situation in the summer and was refunded within 60 days. Is quite a straight forward process!

Have had success - PayPal refund made. Thank-you all for the tips.

Good news, I didn't know you could claim if you sent the money as friends and family, useful to know you can.

I think it was more a case of the company who had allowed her to use their account felt they had better when I reported to PayPal. Big learning curve for me.

Please leave a (factual and dispassionate) review on their facebook wall, and saying that only PayPal resolved it, not the company.

PattiStanger · 12/10/2018 18:56

That's makes sense OP, did you actually get as far as speaking to PayPal or was the threat enough to make the company refund you?

NWQM · 12/10/2018 22:00

I raised the query via PayPal. I also gave feedback on their Facebook page but can't
on the original company page it would appear.

PayPal have told me before that if it is obvious it is for a product/service you can sometimes get a refund for f&f payment

NWQM · 13/10/2018 11:06

I think I was in a stronger position than I thought because I'd followed a link and I had not selected 'friends & family' but could show it was for goods. Such a shame as I like supporting local businesses but puts you off ordering and paying up front.
